I changed my oil about 1,000 miles back and after the change I realized the dude at napa gave me the wrong jug of AMS oil. I wanted 5w30 and 10w30 is what I ended up with. Its been super cold here in MN and its not running weird or anything, gas mileage sucks but that s due to the cold and letting truck warm up. Just curious if I should dump and refill with 5w30 due to the cold temps or just go back the 5w30 in 4,000 miles and not worry about it?

    Thoughts?

What year and engine size is your truck? How many miles on the odometer?

This is just my 2 cents.

You live in one of the coldest states in the U. S. and your engine was designed for lighter oil(5W-30) + you have a low mileage vehicle with hopefully many years of life to offer.

If it were an '06 with 275,000 miles on it I would keep the 10W-30 'til next oil change. Because it's a young pup and temps are as cold as they are, I would get the recommended weight of oil back into the engine and use a new filter as well.

Again - just my 2 cents.

just leave it and run it to next oil change

    it harms nothing but MPG's

maybe some would argue you wait longer for the oil to pump
to the top of the gallery on startup which may or may not be true
but for one oil change interval it is not gonna matter

25,000 miles it is well broken in and tolerances are all set up nicely now,
    I wouldn't worry a bit about it

This is one of those things you can get by with it 99 times out of 100 or more but you hate to be that 1 out of 100. It's probably going to be fine. But if it were my truck I would just go ahead and change it early so I could stop thinking about that molasses in there when it starts at -25 F.

Thanks guys if it was conventional i would be more worried but it would also be much cheaper to drain and fill LOL. I just was under the assumption as well that MPG would really be the only downside. I may swap it if I get board enough this weekend otherwise sounds like it may stay till next oil change. I did read in the manual it ok to use if nothing else is available and just switch back to 5w30 next time around so it can't be too bad.
