Oh also, I don't think it was a random thing to break - pretty sure it was damaged from a tornado blowing a tree on my truck back in October, and it just now broke completely off...

The deep crease on the hood is pretty close to where the fitting broke. Not a mystery. Good luck with an affordable resolution.

Yeah. So far the epoxy is holding strong and the ebay replacement will be here this week. It's just crazy to me that it didn't fully break off sooner! I think I got lucky since I was only going about 20 when the brakes quit working... I drive a lot of interstate and highway - it could have been bad!

Likely started out as a hair-line crack; then worsened over time. Truck bouncing around on roads, etc. finally caused the crack to spread and eventually break.

The outer thread of the bulkhead fitting with the nut is not tapered thread - it is straight NC thread to allow the bulkhead fitting to be tightened to the "bulkhead", thus the name. I didn't propose to put the nut on the inside, I suggested fishing the bulkhead fitting though manifold (with mechanics wire probably) and tightening the nut on the outside. Then threading the NPT barbed nipple into the bulkhead fitting. If actually doing this, I'd tighten the barbed nipple into the bulkhead fitting before fishing the assembly through the manifold, then tighten the nut down on the outside securing the bulkhead fitting into the manifold.

All of which really doesn't matter now, since OP has purchased a used intake manifold instead.
