I was wondering anyone has found a solution for installing a outside temperature gage in there 2015 tacoma. This is very anoying coming out of a vehicle that was a 2004 and had one. I called the dealership parts department and they did not seem to think that you could install previous years rear view mirror which had it included as well as auto dimming and compase. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Your dealer is correct, I've already tried it, my dealer swapped my 2013 mirror into my 2014. Everything such as compass and auto dim will work but not the temp. Aftermarket for about $300 is the only option and it does look stock. The aftermsrket has an input for a sensor that you would have to wire to the front of your truck.

The OEM mirror does not physically connect to a temp sensor, it connects to the Canbus communication network. You will see that you will have the temp sensor behind the grille just like years past. That sensor is also connected to Canbus and used for engine management. Starting in 2014 there is no Canbus connector in the headliner for the mirror temp.

I feel your pain, the Entune gets the temp from the HD radio which IMO sucks at best even in a major metro area.

I know that some have spent a lot of effort installing thermometers in their trucks, but you don't have to. Here's a US$10.00 wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer I bought at Wal Mart. (I've seen them on eBay and elsewhere for a little more and have installed maybe a half-dozen over the years.)

They come in white, so mask it off and apply a little satin black paint. Use a strip of Velcro on the back and on the glass and affix it up by the mirror. (Use something behind it to block the sun if you live in an area where the sun is hot so you don't cook it and get false readings. Obviously it's not hot where I live.) I mounted the (wireless) outside temperature transmitter in protected area inside a door jamb.

It shows inside and outside temperatures simultaneously and can be set for degrees F or C. The only downsides are it's not illuminated and you have to change the batteries (4 "AAA"s) every six months. Not a big deal to me.

(Yes, it's really 36F in the garage tonight and the truck wasn't used today.)

Do you know where I can get the aftermarket at ? I want something that looks stock because I plan on keeping the truck many years. For $300, I may just go that route.

I don't have a picture but I bought a small digital thermometer from Lowe's that says it is weather resistant. It cost about $10. I sealed it better with several coats of nail polish and attached it to my left outside mirror with velcro. I mounted it towards the inside and low so it doesn't block my view. It works great and, when I park in shady areas, I pull it off and put it in my pocket. ;)

    Regards,

    John
