New user, gathering as much information before making a decision about which Tacoma to buy. I definitely want a Tacoma. I live in Manhattan, but need a 4 wheel drive truck for my home on the Big Island of Hawaii. Very sports oriented and need to transport my outrigger canoes, SUPs, surf boards and scuba gear.

Taco as are hands down the most popular truck in Hawaii with surfers. I am not a serious 4-wheeler. No machismo here. Need 4 wheels for practicalpurposes of traversing very rough terrain.

I think I want at least the TRD Sport. Don't know if I need the Off Road. Definitely don't want the Limited. Will often get in the truck with wet trunks. Leather is not practical. I really want a manual transmission with 18 inch wheels. I also think the truck should be lifted slightly, but do not want a big monster truck. Again I'll be going over very rough roads with huge boulders.

I would definitely opt for the V6 and think I'll wait for he 2016 to come out. The 6 gear manual transmission seems to be the way to go.

Any input or suggestions? I'm in no hurry and can wait. I like the style of the Tacoma and do not want it to change significantly. Will probably put a Thule rack in the bed and on top of the cab to accommodate the 20' length of my outriggers.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Honestly I would get the off road if I was buying a new truck. I do like the color match of the sport and the skewp. The locker is a must for doing some off roading though. Good luck finding your new truck.

    Welcome to TW

    Function > Form

    get the off road..

Plus, with Hawaii style trucks, I'm sure people would trade you their color matched pieces for chrome ones..

OMG! LOL! That monster truck is hideous bra. I had more in mind 18' wheels with a 2-3 inch lift. Is that what you call it, or is it a rake, hike or know by another name. Is it even necessary?
