I guess you missed the part about:

    - Better frame (fully boxed)
    - Better mpg
    - More room

You're right - those things don't matter at all.

And, FWIW, the Sierra/Silverado beat the Tundra on reliability in JD power ratings.

I'm in the market for a new truck, so I'm gonna hold out for a 2016.

Looking at an AC TRD OR. I love the Quicksand color.

No I didn't really. 'Better frame', any evidence of this? Of course not, just speculation.
'Better MPG' .. still don't know since the Tacoma's epa rating have not been released.
'More room', have you or the other guy sat in a new Tacoma? No.

I chose to ignore them because they are someone's opinion.

Did you watch the live feed? Toyota stated a new frame, more power better fuel efficiency than previous Tacomas.

    1. I am not disputing that Toyota has improved its frame. However, if you think it will be fully boxed, I don't know what to say. A fully boxed frame would have required a ground up redesign, which they didn't do. The Canyon, OTOH, borrows its frame from the full sized Silverado/Sierra, and it's beefy.

A fully boxed frame is better than C channel for off road use. Ask the Land Cruiser. Or any engineer. For god's sake, just look at the slow motion off road shots in the 2016 Tacoma intro video. There is frame flex all over the place, and the bumps aren't even that big. There: evidence.

    2. If Toyota thought they would have class leading mpg, they would have said so. They didn't. They said they would improve on the (dismal) existing mpg. I'll provide evidence when the EPA numbers come out.

    3. Regarding room - I *owned* a 2008 Tacoma for two years. This is the same frickin' cab. There is only so much you can do by reconfiguring seat cushions and the dashboard. Is your *opinion* that it will suddenly become spacious after 10 years?

Anyway, I wasn't trying to attack the Tacoma here. I was mentioning the different factors that were important *to me*. Ignore away.

Dont think with the lack of changes and it is clear they plan to sell it based on the fan base and name.....

They should have put out the facts with the roll out.
it is clear they are behind the 8 ball and trying to play catch up with a small change yet calling it all new...

I think the next truck I will look at will be Ram or GM.
even if they don't have a gopro mount......

for the same money you can get so much more and better warranty and service to boot.

I'm on the fence. I like the new access cab. The double cab doesn't work for me as the bed doesn't look like it belongs to the truck but they pulled off the Access cab nicely.

Love the interior. In the pictures it looks great. Hoping it feels as nice as it looks. About the only truck out there that I think has anything better is the new F150 and NO the GM twins don't make the cut. Too much cheap plastic and this is coming from a guy with a first gen Taco... so I am kind of an exp[ert on cheap plastics... :)

If I pull the trigge it won't be until at least 2017-2018. I figure I have at least another 60K to put on the old first gen...

Well, if anything the mule pics from August suggested the manual tranny will not only live, but will be a new design.

And yeah, I'll be getting a MY16 if DCSB O/R if available with manual.

I'm thinking I'll get a 2016 AC TRD O/R, or maybe a DCLB if they have them available with TRD O/R in manual. In White :)

I had a first gen TRD Pre-Runner, and I loved it. I was looking to get into a new Tacoma this past summer, but I didn't want to buy the gen 2 body style when the gen 3(?) was coming in another year. So I compromised and bought a T4R Trail Premium. While I love the T4R I miss having a pickup, so I'm leaning towards a 2016 TRD O/R DCSB myself, pending a test-drive. (Good thing the T4R has such a high re-sale too, I shouldn't get killed on trade-in).

While my dream truck is a Raptor, and the pix of the 2016 Raptor looked amazing...the reality is that's out of my price range (at least I think it is!).

I think a lot of people are glass half empty and not half full. First off many of us don't want to navigate a big truck, so pay a little bit more for what you don't want, isnt a bonus.

I look at it this way...I have owned an76, 86, 89, 99 and 05. The 05 was the best and worst. Best power, ride(although soft, washboard road is awesome). Worst meaning too many small issues with wheel bearings, leafs, vibrations, list goes on. Toyota has a reputation of bullet proof and wanted to keep their competitve advantage, so this truck was decent to begin with and they just tightened it up.

I would rather they work on wheel bearings than increase cab by .5 inches so people can say it is all new. For me I think they did exactly what they should have and take care of issues with existing components and redesign it enough to make people want to trade up...which I hope they did!

I will take exactly what I have now, but white this time.

I'm waiting for the engine specs... We are getting the 2GR-FSE engine from the lexus, so if it's around 300 HP and 23 mpg I'll look into trading my 2010 DCSB for a new one... And if the shocks are the same I'm in.... Can't drive stock suspension ever again...

Unless the test drive is just awful I'll be picking up a TRD Sport in blue. If not I'll be getting a Colorado as I already really enjoyed my test drive. Doubt that will happen though.

Unless production trucks show signs of horrendous performance/drivability (which I would be shocked if that happens) I more than likely will be pulling the trigger on one.

The agonizing part will be deciding which model & whether or not to go with DCLB or DCSB.
