Im used to having full running boards on my trucks. but love the looks of the avid/n-fab steps. how is it getting out of the truck with these types of bars? how wide is the step? im afraid that stepping out will be awkward since im used to having the entire board to step on.

I have the N-fabs and getting out is no prob as your leg is behind the step, as for using the step for getting in, it takes a little getting used to with the forward step.

I love the N-fabs as I don't use the steps and my Lady does. The way the wheel to wheel step bars are set up the steps are enough forward that I can miss them getting in and out of the truck. If you use the steps you need to get used to putting your outside foot on the step as they are forward enough that a passenger would get in by placing their right foot on the step and their left has enough room to go behind to get in the truck. So far no complaints from either me or her. Though if you decide on the N-fabs, do not get the China made Smitty Built copies (licensed design from N-fab) as there seems to be a lot of quality issues with them, get the real ones from N-Fab.

This is what I was afraid of...getting out and not having a step to step on. Getting in works fine as I usually step way forward with my left foot and step into the cab with my right. I hate "sliding" out as it usually breaks down the seat bolster and I hate that!
Thought about doing sliders with strategically placed grip tape but you'd have to still step up so high and with much less stability.
    Appreciate the feedback.

Appreciated. I've seen all the badness regarding smitty built steps on TW. I kinda like the avid products.

The step is there to use if you need or want it, just have to get used to using it. My Lady has no problems with it. My issue was I don't use the steps and on most of them I would bang my calf on the steps. The N-fabs let me get in and out without using the step or hitting it.
