Not yet, but I want to learn. I learned that gar are starting to take over one of my favorite ponds and I want to start targeting them to reduce their numbers. Thinking about getting a crossbow.

Cool deal I shoot tournaments and for fun all over Texas and the south east. I would look for a basic compound in the 35-40 pound range rather than a xbow

Gotcha...but I fish from a kayak where space is scarce and I can't stand up. And I doubt I will target the exclusively...I just want one on board so that when I come across one I can shoot it.

Is this near impossible or do you think it can be done?

I love to bow fish. Especially gator gar and spoonbill. Redfish in Louisiana when I get down there.

I have a buddy bow fishes from his kayak. Has this bar that folds down that he can put up and lean against. Mounted lights to it also.

Love me some bowfishing! We try at least :D
We hunt the rivers and lakes around here. Not really that big of a sport here. We get some funny looks.
Here's one of me and my bud ( me in white hat)...

My cuz punched this gator gar out of the Trinity River in Texas, shot a bunch of fish in my time but nothing like this. My best friend and brother along with myself may make the trip to the Trinity one day and see if cuz can put us on some monster fish......Far cry from what we shoot here in East Tennessee that's for sure.

Pretty cool set up they have, they purchased a fish/deer camp down there......They stay on the river in a houseboat with the "fish'n" boat tied to it, when it gets dark they take the "fish'n" boat out and plug monsters all night. Crazy the size of fish they shoot. I think that gar was around 200 maybe 210. They also shoot 180-190" whitetails down there, live'n the high life must be nice, I'd be in divorce court if I was down there.

I'm more of a numbers guy, I'd rather go shoot 100 shad and small carp/gar than one big fish lol but big grass carp are probably my favorite fish over all to stick!

Gonna get started this year in MD with all the rays that carpet the Chesapeake. I think the ideal bow would be a recurve, but I think I'll just get a good kit for my compound.

If your gonna be shootin bigger fish stay away from a recurve it's old technology. Your pulling more weight for less kinetic energy
