    Hey everyone,
been lurking for awhile looks like this site will be a great resource. Sick and tired of spending most weekends replacing worn-out parts on my 2003 Dodge with only 178k miles on it. I need some help deciding on my next Toyota.

Are there big differences between 2008 and 20010 Tacoma models?

I'm looking at two different Tacoma both access cab v6 6-speed 4x4. Both are the same price. I won't drive an automatic and need the v6 for towing capacity.

Truck one is an 2008 with only 20k miles. TRD off-road package fully loaded with most options. Has some ugly aftermarket 20" wheels that would have to go but otherwise looks like it's been a pavement or garage queen most of it's life. No service records, every recall is still open on it so I doubt it has ever been back to a dealer since new?

Truck two is a 2010 42k miles. bare-bones no options or upgrades other than aluminum wheels. Was owned by dealer mechanic, full service history since new..here is kicker, the 2010 is a Toyota Certified with warranty out to 70k miles.

    What would you do?
    Thanks for the advice.

Both sound like they have their +++s. If it were me, I'd get the 2010 because I'd throw on new suspention and wheels anyway. The bare-bones is just an opportunity to put your personal touch on it. The warranty is probably a $1500 value and resale might be better on the newer truck, although resale is good on all tacos. I might be off, just throwing out an opinion, since you asked.

Good luck and welcome to the site!

    Thanks Over,
Looks like the 2010 would have stability control & side air bags and the 2008 would not.

Any other differences other then electronics? Do the base and TRD offroad have the same axle ratio?

Sorry for all the noob questions doing research & learning on my own too, just not much time to make a decision and there seems to be so much experience here...

Not 100% sure on axel ratio, but I've had two TRD off roads a 2001 and a 2015. The 2001 wasn't a 4 wheel drive, but had a locking rear dif and bilstien shocks and bigger tires. My 2015 is 4 wheel drive and also has locking rear dif and hill assist. Bilstien shocks and bigger tires too. If serious off roading is important to you, these features might be worth getting the 2008 since it has the off road package and likely has locking rear dif. Are they both 4 wheel drive? If so, locking dif is less important. Other member might be able to help you on axel ratio question...

Starting to lean more to the stripped down 2010. Truck would mostly be a daily driver and the stability / traction control are nice features up here for the 4 months of ice and snow..

Oh yea, the 2010 is 1,300 miles from home too so would be nice 3-day road-trip adventure flying down and driving back. Yes I figured that into the cost comparison.

Purchased the 2010 in Texas will be bringing it home the end of this month. Third Toyota truck I've owned. 1994, 2004, now 2010. The last two have been both proceeded by Dodge trucks, starting to see a pattern here.
