Do you have pictures of your setup Chris? That was also an idea for me...I saw one of your posts on an old thread talking about this while searching for ideas.

Do you just leave the connection for the mic dangling under the seat or is your mic always connected?

I don't have any pics. It's literally just laying on the floor under the seat. I leave the mic connected all the time. The mic sits in the conceal carry pocket on the front of the Wet Okole when I'm not using it and then up on the rear view when in use.

Ah ok. I like the under shifter and behind rear cupholder ideas, but I may run into an issue with troubleshooting like you said. However, both of the above ideas aren't too inaccessible if something ever happens. Both ideas would just be behind a piece of trim.

What I really want to try and do is a clean install of the mic mount either on the side of the center console trim or possibly up through the center of the cupholders behind the center console so I could just reach back and connect the mic as needed. I also bought the actual lapel mic mount for the 75 if I wanted to keep the mic connected and actually mounted somewhere.

Hi-Lift function check definitely done :)

Probie on my FD crew was being a typical GM owner and tried to go mudding (on private property...) and got stuck with his front end on top of a foot high stump. He called me and asked if I could help so I headed over while my probie's friend also came.

We tried rocking the truck at first to get it off the stump but he was pretty stuck on it. So instead of trying to winch or pull him out (it was awkward positioning to get to where I would've had to park the truck), I pulled my Hi-Lift out and just jacked his truck up on his front tow hooks while he controlled reverse and brake. Worked like a charm...

It got interesting when another guy drove by and got out of his truck, then started at Level 10 screaming at us for being on private property, saying he was going to call the cops. So I had this redneck guy, my redneck probie, and his redneck friend all yelling at each other while I tried to calm all of them down. I told the passerby that we knew that he (my probie) was a dumbass and we were just trying to get him off the property and be on our way, and obviously he wouldn't do this again. Luckily I was still in my uniform from the night before and he said only because I was a fireman and he lived in my first due that he would let us off.

I've told my probie multiple times in the past whenever he talks about his mudding adventures that this is why all four wheelers get a bad name, for tearing up and going onto private property. Hopefully he learned his lesson...

Wired up new Cobra 75 with the help of Skygear today. Decided on the under cubby install and then the mic connection through the trim on the driver side console. Even if I have to troubleshoot anything, all I have to do is pop the cupholder trim out. The CB unit actually sits forward of the cupholders under the angled cubby.

Still working on SWR; Channels 1/19/40 were all reading around 2.5, regardless of antenna height, which is a little confusing, but they are all at least under 3 so the radio is safe to use while I figure it out. Also still working on finalizing the mic connection and then I will ziptie the actual CB unit to keep it from sliding around, ziptie all the wiring, and pop the cupholder trim back in. Need to find a better grommet or solution to keep the mic connection in the plate.

Truck going in for 35K service a bit early plus state inspection. Hope the stealership doesn't break anything. :homer:

Also, does anyone have any tips for my SWR issues? Regardless of my antenna height, Channels 1/19/40 all have a SWR of about 2.5.

Can you adjust the amount of antenna sticking out of the base? There should be a set screw on the base to allow for movement. I tuned a similar antenna back in the summer for a local guy and probably had to cut almost an inch off of it to get it decent.

    Ambigious' page?

I don't think so, just the little tip with the set screw at the top that has maybe 3-4 inches of adjustment.

Never mind it was a different antenna that needed cutting

So 1 nor 40 improve when you adjust the tip length?

I've only done three adjustments to the antenna, but from the shortest to all the way out, all channels were at 2.5.

I actually did see his because he asked for pics and told me he would use it. I haven't jumped on the IG bandwagon just yet :)

Nice build! Is your antenna a magnetic mount or are you running a different type of mount? My SWR was a little high, but it was because of the mount connection
