Newbe here. I am planning to run the eastern 2/3rds of the Mojave Road in April. '15 Access Cab Off-Road 4L auto. Most of the route will be fairly flat easy going, 4W Hi. Conservatively speaking, what kind of mileage can I expect to get?

Off road mileage will be like 10-12 in 4x4.

If no true wheeling, I bet you will get close to 17.

We travel forest trails often and can get awesome millage.

It depends on what kind of trail it is. If it's a whole lot of walking paced 4lo I'll get as low as 6mpg.

You can probably run the entire trail in 2hi.

If the trail is basically flat and dry you should consider running it in 2WD. You get better mileage.

My truck is getting around 16 mpg normally around town now that I've tuned it up. You shouldn't see any real drop in mileage in 2WD unless you do a lot of stopping to see the views.

In 4WD I'm down around 12mpg and have been as low as about 2 mpg in 4LO (15 gallons in 30 miles) but that was in deep snow with a lot of back and forth.

A lot of that road is 2WD okay from what I have seen and read, so you could save the 4WD for loose or mud or steep places (shift-on-the-fly after-all). Press the VSC button quickly in 2WD to activate AUTO LSD to give more power to the limited slip system.

I agree with Jager on the mileages... closer to 10-12 in H4, and less in L4... but maybe more than his snow mileage, however.
