How much should i pay for a trailer hitch ( Ball).
I'm assuming I should be able to get one from a junkyard or ebay or something for reasonable. I have someone trying to sell me one and we are going to try it later, just want to know how much I should expect to pay :)

Most auto parts stores (NAPA/O'Reilly/Advance, etc) carry them as well. They aren't terribly expensive.

But I agree, for a used one somebody is not using, offer $5 to start and don't pay more than $10. It's been awhile, but I've picked up whole receivers with ball for somewhere in that range at yard sales.

well ofcourse it would have to be the ball with the rectangular piece that slides into the female end on the truck :)

I'm new to the new stuff as I'm used to the older stuff and either bumper pulls or balls on bumper as to my 92 S 10 :)

Go to Tractor supply and get a hitch ball combo for like $25.

    gotcha

or I wonder if i need to just get one with the 3 balls though I'm thinking the 10 ft trailer I'm going to get will have a 2 inch and most trailers are 2 inch???

most think i will pull is that trailer sometimes, not a whole lot and maybe a horse trailer ( which i dont have), maybe borrow one sometimes , few times a year or so. Small 2 horse trailer

The 2" receiver and a tow ball mounted ready to go. 1 receiver 1 ball. And a pin to hold it in the hitch.

To the best of my experience/knowledge, most trailers you'd want/should tow with a Tacoma size truck will have a 2 inch. I don't know anything about horse trailers, so I'm not certain about that part.

2 inch receiver, an 1 5/8th inch ball is the most common. A 2" ball is for big ass trailers.

Interesting ... both my 6x10 enclosed and 7x12 flatbed trailers take 2" ball. One is a Cargo Express and the other a Kaufman, so not homemade. :notsure:

Edit: do you mean 1 7/8th inch?

my 5x8 trailer has a 1 7/8" so if the 3-ball has that and a 2" that would cover most applications.

the 3-ball is a straight out so you'd need to check your angles. If you get the better 3-ball receiver then you are looking at a lot more dough

I actually have different drop receivers for my two trailers. Hard to know what's going to work best until you put the trailer on the truck, both in a loaded condition and unloaded, to figure our what amount works best. :notsure:

    EDIT: Hope that makes sense?
