I have a 2003 V6 tacoma and having problems with a code coming up on it for misfire on #2&5 cylinders. When I go down the road and drive for about 5 minutes the code pops up. I took it to the shop and he changed the coil and that didn't fix the problem. Since then we have change the fuel filter, both O2 sensors, then change all 3 coil packs and the mechanics says the ECR needed to be change, so I bought that and changed it. Still having the same problem..

I've done a mod or two
Get rid of that mechanic, so far besides the coil pack, he's suggested things that have literally nothing to do with the issue. The ECR (if by ECR he means igniter) can be tested, so I'm not sure why he told you it was bad if it didn't fix the issue. If it was fuel filter it wouldn't be just 2&5 misfiring. I'm no expert but it sounds like a trip to a better mechanic is in order. Maybe he is a good mechanic... maybe not (sounds like he's throwing parts at and un-diagnosed issue)

Here are some areas to start though.
Have your fuel injectors checked, fuel pressure checked, intake manifold leak tested, leakdown test (check for a leaking head gasket), new spark plugs (NGK or Denso brand), new spark plug wires (they go bad and can short to the block causing a misfire).

Good luck and welcome to TW. :)

I did change the spark plugs and wires with the NGK brand. The mechanic did move the injectors around but problem stayed with 2&5. I am going to Change mechanics.

I would definitely have the other tests performed then. Good luck

if you still help, contact my shop, Honest1 Auto Care in Roswell, ga if you are close by that. we'll correctly diagnose the problem and fix it the first time.

cylinders 2 and 5 are on opposite banks, but the coil on #5 fires #2, you may have a bad coil even though its new, a wiring problem, or a bad driver in the computer.

I was about to go look up which cylinders were tied together thinking that it might be just what you described. If I remember correctly, the coils are easily swappable to another location. Theory could be tested for free by swapping the coils around and seeing if the miss moves. What's that take - a 10mm wrench?

I’d be interested to know what the conclusion was as I’m having misfire on #2 and #5 too.
