Not a show stopper for me as far as going to buy a 16 Tacoma, but I hate the thing being there.

The only place a go pro mount should be standard equipment is on trucks sold in the Russian market. You just know some retarded marketing person came up with this gimmick & the bean counters ate it up.

I wouldn't be surprised if GoPro supplied Toyota with those mounts for free. All of a sudden they get 140,000 "GoPro-ready" trucks on the road every year.

Yeah but even if they were free I still see it as a fail for Toyota. It will annoy some people to have to look at it, and Toyota spent time and money on the logistics and installation. All over a $4 plastic mount that anyone could buy and stick on the windshield if they want to. Just looked up one on Best Buy and it came with an adhesive mount for a windshield included with the camera.

We certainly know it will do one thing though, sell more Go Pro cameras. I wonder if Toyota has some kind of stake in their company or something.

I'd think the mount would be just out of the driver's eye line. It might annoy the passenger, but that wouldn't be MY problem. I still was to see if there's something else I could mount there that isn't a GoPro.

It would be a great place for other things. Radar detector, dash cam etc...

^It isn't an ideal spot for dash cams. Dash cams should be mounted closer along the vehicle centerline to get the widest field of view.

I just wish they would see fit to include intermittent wipers in all their trucks. And how about the camera module to finish it all off when you get the convenience group. On most trucks the wiring is already there. Would either thing break the bottom line?

Basically anything that you can attach to a go pro arm now has a pre-built mount without hacking into your dashboard. Rig one of the camera ends to your brake controller and now you have a handy place to lock it in when you need it instead of drilling holes in your dash and smashing your knee on it. My dad could rig up a thing to hold his dog tracker and lock it in up there when needed. You could epoxy the camera connector to a Garmin and now have a great mount for it when you need it without all those damn suction spots on the windscreen. Garage door openers, radar detectors, etc, etc.

But hey, it is easier to be cynical and close minded about it, right?

You never had to drill into your dash to mount anything before. It's pretty easy to buy an adhesive mount for a couple bucks and stick it anywhere you want. That's all this thing is, a $4 adhesive mount stuck to the windshield.

I have a Garmin for tracking my hound dog, and I would never mount it at the top of the windshield like that. I have mine on a dash mount right in front of my face in the middle of the dash, it's easier to see the screen and grab it and go when you need to. It uses a friction mount and I didn't have to drill any holes into my dash at all.

^That would be a weird place to put a GPS. Radar/laser detector, though, is a different point entirely!

Why are people fixated on the GoPro mount ?

and you won't even be able to see it especially if Toyota mounts the rear view mirror halfway down the windshield like in the 2nd gens

It's not the actual GoPro mount that bothers me. It's just disappointing that Toyota is spending time and effort on putting something like this in the truck when that time and effort could have been better spent elsewhere. It shows where they're priorities are at these days.

Exactly my point , they probably spent close to zero time on this compared to the rest of the vehicle but people seem to want to believe they spent as much time on the stupid GoPro mount as the engine , drivetrain or traction control devices

    Uh yeah

Who said they spent as much time on the mount compared to the rest of the vehicle or any other part of the vehicle?

The fact they spent any time on it at all surrounding the logistics and installation of these things is stupid to me, unless they are getting a kick back on actual Go Pro sales, but I bet they aren't. Oh well it's just a $4 plastic mount though, no use in stressing over it.

Who cares? They're simply trying to keep the younger market interested. Big deal.

And I'm pretty sure they spent A LOT of time on the rest of the truck.

It's the same thing as ski resorts spending time and money on terrain parks, when most mature skiers have zero interest in it. You gotta hook the young ones.

Do you own a GoPro? Do you know how wide a view they have? It's pretty big! Even mounted on the extreme left or right corner of the windshield should still give you a wide enough angle to get all lanes of travel in front of you.

I doubt it's going to make or break anyone's decision over weather they are going to buy the truck or not, young or old. You really think some young kid is going to be influenced to buy the truck because of this $4 plastic adhesive mount?
