Thinking about buying a pre runner 4 cyl, auto. No towing, 95% driving on level ground.

Wondered if very many people who have bought a pre runner prerunner 4 cyl auto.........wished they would have gotten a 6 cyl auto because they felt the 4 cyl auto was just too small for the pre runner body under normal everyday driving???

Yeah I left my 99 civic si for the truck. One of the greatest 4 cylinder of all time b16a2. It was responsive reved to 8200 rpm and sounded amazing when floored. If that sounds like what your used to or expecting get a v6 BC it is still barely enough. The v6 is non responsive and slow revving but it's a v6 and obviously has more power and torque, gets off the line good with the 06 sport diff, and is fine for a truck.

That being said a choked up stock 4 cyl in this truck would be a joke until modified.

Get a v6 its the most popular BC it fits most people best, you won't regret it, other than the mileage is around 16-18 mpg

Get the v6 and call it good. Besides the gas mileage is neglible at best.

I had the I4 in my first Tacoma and now that I have the V6 I know what I was missing. They get the same mileage for all intensive purposes. The only thing nice about the I4 is no timing belt to change. Get the V6 unless you are buying the cheapest base model 2wd Tacoma you can.

I test drove an AC manual once. THought it had plenty of power.

    Ended up with a V6 DCSB though...so maybe I didn't?

Drive both see what you think

I swore by I4s since 1984 ... bulletproof as they are ... had it in 4 Toyotas .... stepped up to the V6 in my '14 .... BAM! ... never going back.

    I love my 2tr. :)
I think it's funny how people think the v6 is such a huge difference - I've owned both and only really noticed a difference in towing and hauling.... it's a truck, not a sports car.

I took a 4 banger AC out for a test drive. I took it up Parleys Canyon with 2 people, less than a 1/4 tank and the AC on. It was slow. I couldn't imagine one with a topper, bed full of gear, full tank , AC on up that same grade.

I am very pleased with my 4cyl DCSB pre runner. I drove cross country with a camper shell and had the bed and cab jammed packed with all the heavy stuff that I owned. Never noticed a lack of power and averaged 24-25 mpg on the cross country. Around town with no camper shell I get 20 mpg. Nonetheless, if you still can't decide, I'd wait until you see the 2016 specifications.

I've owned my 2.7/auto AC for the past year and a half and I really like it. Where I live it's pretty flat, but I do a lot of traveling and it handles hills and rolling terrain pretty well. When I bought it I didn't think I'd be doing any towing, but 6 months ago I towed a single axle trailer full of furniture from central Texas to Denver and then last month I towed a larger, heavier single axle trailer back from Denver to central Texas. So, as you can see, I like the 2.7.
