Jagergirll is a she. I don't have plans to do crazy wheeling until this is paid off but any mods I do I want to last. So I am trying to have a good base. I'm thinking I should do the bumpers, winch, and some armor before I do the suspension. I'm making most of my armor bumpers etc myself so I am aware of trying to keep my weight down and even throughout the vehicle. Once I see how it rides and what it weight then maybe I can make a decision about suspension?

Honestly its up to you which you do first. If it were me personally I'd ask someone on here that has a 4cyl reg cab with a bumper/winch what front suspension they have and if they would do something different. Then go off of that, you may be fine with OME 887's and probably would be, but I know 6cyl double cab guys run 886's with a front bumper.

I honestly think a u bolt flip kit is a waste of money, the u bolts don't stick down far at all if you cut them correctly, plus the probability of hitting a rock on that plate is so low only rock crawlers would need it IMO. Then you also have to buy new bump stops

I have seen the Bilstin 5100 talked about in here a lot but not much about the 6112.[/QUOTE]

The 6112 is a new front shock that is the same idea as a 5100 adjustable height shock.

It has a larger diameter so more oil and should perform a bit better and for longer. I just dont know if they will fit in your budget.

The front 6112 isn't available yet for us, there is talk of it coming out soon and I have seen prices around $750 for the set, they come with eibach coils.

OME suspension is like Leupold optics. You could spend more and get better, but it's the best bang for your buck and will take anything you throw at it while giving you the look you want. Consult Dan at Wheeler's, but I'm guessing you want the 885 spring for your application. Get the Light Racing adjustable UCAs so you can run bigger tires with little to no chopping/ pounding.

I'll put this here since you're a hunter [IMG]

You think 885 springs are enough with a heavy front bumper?

She has a 4 banger, 886's would be way too stiff. 885's will be fine.

I think she should do 887's if not 886's. 885's are advertised to give 1.75 inches of lift but most get 2.5" (not guaranteed), put a heavy steel bumper on there and it'll weigh it down and she will be rubbing on 285's (if thats the size tire shes going after). Her choice though

I have 887's on my truck. I got exactly 3" of lift. I talked to Dan at Wheelers and he recommended using the top plate spacer on my 887's instead of switching to a heaver spring rate when I get my bumper on.

I don't know from personal experience, but I am thinking that 887's would give a regular cab 4 banger an excessive amount of lift. Hopefully someone with more experience can chime in.

The top plate spacer is key here. She shouldn't need higher spring rate than the 885 (887 is same). If she does lift before armor (my recommendation), the 885 will give the truck a good look without being excessive for the other parts - except maybe the brake lines. Then as she adds armor and the springs compress, she can decide (this is key) if she wants/ needs a spacer to lift more. If she puts on 887s and doesn't like it, there's no making adjustments.

Good points. I think contacting someone and asking about weight specifications. For my trip I'm more concerned with a better bumper. I may upgrade bumper and suspension around the same time.

I added Firestone Ride Rite airbags for towing and hauling weight in the bed. The ride height is easily adjustable and I didn't have to change springs or shocks (those are on the to do list for this year, though). If you do your bumper and front suspension simultaneously, you might find that you don't need to upgrade the rear right away. You might decide that the air bags are a good option too, and you can retain them when you do upgrade the rear suspension (my plan). I, personally, am waiting for a deer or something to encourage the insurance folks to cut me a check before I go with a bumper. When I bought the truck a bumper was the first item on my wish list. I don't regret not getting one yet, but it'll happen eventually.
