Which coils

I'm new to the Toyota world and just bought a 2011 TRD. I want to lift the front about 2 2.5 inches. I've read a lot on the 5100's and everybody says the ride sucks if you crank them all the way up with stock coils. My question is what coils would be best to use with the 5100's to get the height I want and keep a decent ride? I'm looking at the to toyotec or old man emu coils but if there's different ones that are comparable in price I'm coo with that. I do a lot of hunting in the fall but don't go rock crawling if that helps.

I have that's where I found that ppl don't like the ride. A better question would be should I use the coils or the shocks to achieve the lift and keep the ride?

 

Kinda going through the same thing as you. Figured out pretty quick 5100s with stock springs are just a temporary solution. If using 5100s, eibach or OME springs. For the best ride, 5100s set at 0 and get the springs that give the approximate height you want. I say approximate because people report quite different numbers with the same setup.

I'm having eibach 1.6in springs and 5100s put on this week. I'm expecting anywhere from 1.75-2.5 inches of lift. I figure it will settle to a little under 2 inches which is where I want it.

For serious offroading, look at the better coilovers.

On my DC, I went with OME 884 coils and 5100's (set at 0) and like the ride better than OEM.

Fox 2.0 coilovers, a little more then 5100s with springs but a way better ride and fully adjustable 0-3". I had 5100s with ome springs and now the fox coilover and the ride quality is 10 times better. PM me if you want the best pricing on Fox coilovers.

 

I have the General Spring HD Leafs and love 'em. I have been driving with the rake waiting for the 5100's on back order, so I just finally bought the Rancho Quicklift struts and spring combo. That's on my 2005. I also have a 2011 that I am going Old Man Emu coils and shocks. I am expecting I'll prefer the OME, but maybe the Rancho will be comparable. EWither way, General Spring Leafs are heavy duty bad ass.

I got the eibach 1.6in springs and 5100s set at 0 installed. Added a wheeler 3 leaf AAL to the non TSB rear springs and did not keep the overload spring. My goal was around 1.5 inches of lift with a better ride. That's exactly what I got. If the rear springs settle too much I may add the overload back.

I've read about the 620lb eibachs (1.6in) being too stiff for stock trucks. I have a 4cy AC with stock bumper and leer shell. The eibachs are plenty soft with the 5100s set at 0 and give around 1.75inches of lift so far. I'm sure they will settle a little more. My truck with current set up is still a lot softer riding than our 2012 camry. I grew up on the superlifts of the 80s and was a little worried, but shouldn't have been. This modest lift combined with 255/75/17 tires on FJ wheels will give the added performance needed while still being easily handling on road.

Here it is with 245/70/17 tires. Bigger tires this spring.
