hello all new here. I've been looking at getting a Tacoma. never had a Toyota except an old 86 work truck my uncle had I used all the time when I worked for him. was looking at the early 1st gens and by comparing miles and price have started coming up towards 99-02 or so. I really just wanted a extended cab, has to be 4x4, want a manual, and manual 4x4 not push button stuff. which brings me to my main question. I started liking the 01-02 double cabs and is a manual tranny not offered in them???!! or am I just not finding any for sale!!

any suggestions in my search? I know to look at the frames and all. is there much difference in fuel economy in the 4cyl and 6? I have a diesel truck for towing so that's not really a concern for the truck except maybe a 4wheeler or zero turn behind it at times.

Fuel economy really depends on how you drive. The V6 can get decent gas mileage as long as you keep the rpms low when shifting and easy on the throttle. If you really want good fuel economy the 4 banger is best. My double cab V6 averages between 14 and 17 mpg depending on how much of a lead foot I have (which is A lot of the time I drive) and how often I take the interstate.
