We are trying to sell our house and a month ago I bought a brand new mailbox and set up up on a new post. Today it finally got around to snowing and the g&d d$mn snow plow knocked it right off, right in front of me while I was shoveling. In my town it happens every single year because the plow drivers go 50 mph down the road. I'm 42 years old and have lived in northern snow states my whole life and I've never lived in a town where this happens on a regular basis. I've called the town before and complained and all they've said was "sorry, accidents happy" .... F that, it's not an accident if it happens every time.

Anybody else ever see this? What would you do about?

Couldn't you just move your mailbox back into the yard a foot or so?

Moving it back wouldn't help because it's not getting hit by the plow, it's getting hit by the snow coming off the plow. And the post itself is solid, it's the mailbox that's getting beat. the whole box is smashed in so I'm going to have to buy a new one.

I'm thinking right now maybe sinking a post next to the current post and putting up some kind of angled barrier. I found a commercial product for sale but it's $125, I'm pretty sure I can DIY it for a lot less than that.

    That sucks OP!!

I was seeing family last winter close to buffalo. saw like 4 or 5 in a row knocked down, than a few houses down another one or 2 were knocked down. That driver must have been texting or drunk.

Here in WI on the county roads where the plow comes by at max mph, we put a piece of 3/4 plywood braced in front of the box to take the brunt of the furrow coming off the plow, which works quite well and you can remove it come summertime.

A snow plow pushed down my basketball hoop(an expensive one) that was mounted solid in concrete and it destroyed it. My mom called the city and they said it was supposably city property cause it was close to the street, no closer than a mialbox so I guess they can just knock those down too? We were pissed.

Unfortunately, if it's a town / city plow no. Every place I've lived has had a statement in their articles (or whatever) to the effect that they are not responsible for any damages caused by plowing. I hadn't actually had this trouble until where I currently live. My box went down twice in the first year. Second year with a new box when it got loose I went redneck on it with duck tape and it's been holding on since. Might be the year for a refirb though.

It still doesn't give them the right to plow over stuff.

    ...too much shit to list.
    This.
My town doesn't even have home USPS delivery for this very reason. Everyone has a PO Box because the plows nuked the mail boxes so frequently.

My county road commission replaces the ones they knock off. You just have to call them. I happened to be going by one of their road commission out post awhile back and noticed they had several pallets of mail boxes ready for replacement.
