My wife is looking at getting into photography. Partly just for fun but I think she want's to take classes and eventually do wedding/event photography.

From talking to a friend who does photography she told her to checkout this for a good starter camera and lenses.

I know this is a very subjective question, but what are you thoughts on this setup?

I suggest you start with a Nikon D3100/D3200 and use it for a while, they are really good starter cameras and the kit comes with a decent lens. Then I'd go for a Canon 5D Mk 3 or a GH4 depending on if you want mainly stills or videos too.

That rebel is relatively high dollar stuff and you never know, she migh not even like photography. My 2 cents anyway.

Great setup for a starter IMO. I wanted a t5i but ended up going 70D just because I would have wanted to upgrade eventually lol.

I have this exact camera, and only use it for a hobby. Great camera imo, can't really go wrong with it. Worst case scenario she doesn't take up photography, but you will still have a nice camera for family events etc. Takes stunning pictures, and when printed right they come out looking like they were taken with a more expensive setup. However I would not order it from that website, as the price is a bit high. Check ebay, and usually you can find closeouts that are hundreds less. (keep an eye out for canon lenses that have a red ring around them. They are made differently then the everyday lenses and can cost hundreds more compared to the basic lens.) Best of luck!

Yeah I totally understand that it's a cut throat business. I'm pretty sure the lady that took our AMAZING wedding photos has more money in camera equipment than my Tacoma is worth...
