Does everyone use 0w20 synthetic

    Was just curious if ppl use the recommended 0w20 in there newer 4cyl? Been hearing alot of controversy over using it only in winter and switching to a 5w30 for summer ect. I use 0w20 year round. Is this not a wise choice since 0w20 doesnt offer much long term protection and is basically for mpg's, so i am told? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    As Toyota recommends 0W-20 year round for the 4 cylinder, I'm going to trust their engineers over my unfounded speculation on motor oil. I've run 0W-20 in my '11 4 cylinder as long as I've owned it with no trouble. I see no reason to change.

    Thats what ive been doing too. I have a '12 and been doing the same. Guys at work and i have been talking about this off and on for a while so I thought i would see what other real taco owners were doing.

    I use 0W-20 synthetic for my truck (2014). I am more concerned on which brand of oil filter to run than viscosity of the oil for my truck actually...

    It is really splitting hairs, but I believe that gas mileage is being prioritized over longevity by the govt and OEMs. For the majority of owners, that is a good trade because an extra tenth or two of mpg will save money and no oil issues are likely to be seen in less than 150k miles. Most people don't keep a vehicle longer than that.
    I think it is telling that 5W30 was recommended for so many years (and still is in some countries) and the engine hasn't changed much.
    I feel comfortable that staying in the Xw20/30 ballpark with a quality synthetic oil with reasonable oil change intervals will not cause any harm to my truck and may well extend the amount of time it goes before it starts "using oil".
    For what it's worth, I also add some Lubromoly MOS2 every oil change for extra peace of mind and use an oversized Fram Ultra filter.

    I use Mobil 1 0W-20 like Toyota recommends for these engines. Best price I've seen so far are the 5 quart jugs at Walmart.

    Not true in the case of the 2TR-FE. 5W30 was specified for only 2 years before Toyota switched to 0W20 for the 2007 model year. (http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om/OM35869U/xhtml/OM35869U_OM0019.html?locale=en)

    Even makes me wonder if 5W30 exhibited problems in service for the 2TR, so Toyota re-spec'd to 0W20 as an improvement from 2007 onwards. Now keep in mind this was well before Toyota started marketing its own branded 0W20 oil.

    It's not new, it's not Mexico
    I use 0W-20 too. Started with 5W-20 conventional oil but switched at 45K. I mostly use Mobil 1 because it's on sale somewhere.
