Hey guys, first post so go easy :).

So I have a 09 TRD Sport, long box, double cab, as of tues I busted the diff, bad. Needs to be replaced.

Now Toyota is quoting me 2k+ with taxes for just a replacement. I would love to put a locking differential in her and figure this is probably the best time to do it. Now the gear ratio for my truck is 4.10.11.

Two questions mainly just to confirm what I have reseached

One: the TRD Off road diff is not just a plug and play. And takes a bit of work to do.

Two: the ARB Air lock is the only aftermark locker option avaliable to me at this point.

Would I be correct in these two statements? If not, please some solid advice would be nice as Im currently without a vehical and can't really afford much more than 2.5k and I have no shop nor the time available to do my own work so I would have to have a shop do it.

yup. and the TRD elocker does not just drop in the non elocker housing. best bet is to give East coast gear supply a call and get a diff with an ARB in her.

I would probably contact a place like Randy's ring and pinion and see if they can sell you a rebuilt 3rd member. They would know what was available for diff options. It's not very often that a Toyota diff blows up on a stock rig so a used one would be a good option too. Might be able to pick up a whole used TRD off road axle with a locker in it for the price of a rebuilt 3rd member.

There are other options than an ARB. Lockright, detroit, or detroit tru-trac. Give ECGS a call. They will ship you a new third member in a bucket. You take yours out (it's easy, only basic tools needed) and put the new one in. Then send your old one back in the bucket. They have a good warranty and are, in my opinion, the best in the business for Toyota stuff. http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-788575-tacoma-8-4-non-eld-t100-tundra-3rd.html
