Stupid question here. I have a 2004 5 spd Tacoma and can't seem to get the 4WD to engage. To me, when I put it the lever into "neutral" and then put it into first, the truck doesn't move. When I pull the lever all the way down into 4 wheel high is the only time I can drive.

I also get no 4WD light on the dash in any spot. Also, what's the point/purpose of the push button 4WD on the shifter?

Any help would be appreciated, not a car guy here (obviously). Thanks!

I have an automatic but on mine all I have to do is push the 4wd button to engage 4x4 no moving of the 4wd lever necessary. Im guessing its the same with you. Putting it in neutral nothing will move. Don't feel bad when I test drove mine I had no clue how it went into 4wd till I read the manual. I can take a picture of the manual for you to see.

PS: Im not savvy at explaining things so sorry if I don't make sense.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I assumed it was, but I still don't get any 4WD light on the dash, and it's definitely not engaged. Maybe it's a fuse or something?

I have an auto also. The lever is always in 4hi and when i click the putton itll switch to 4hi. to go to 4lo i put the truck in nuetral. push lever forward and then ill be in 4lo.

If you check your driver side window visor there should be a manual for 4wd operation.
