Guys, I managed to get this done in about 1.5 hours today, including wiring the steering wheel control adapter for my pioneer radio. Just thought i would share some facts for anyone else doing this:

Before install, i only verified that i had the harness behind the radio (with the three wires coming to it) for the wheel controls. My 2005 wheel had no controls at all originally. I ordered 4 parts- the wheel itself, airbag, clockspring and the metra steering wheel audio adapter for my deck.

All buttons work, just needed a new clockspring and it was plug and play.

The wheel does indeed light up, and even though it is a light green, i can live with it because its pretty dim. Doesnt bother me, despite the amber dash.

There were zero fitment issues, from 2005 to 2013 its all the same. I used to be a ford guy, but with how smooth things go whenever i work on my Yota, itll be hard to get me outta one. Im pretty stoked at how smooth this went.

My only questions is, is it possible to activate siri from the steering wheel? I have a NEX4000 and the metra AXESS adapter.

What did that new wheel cost you? Great job on the swap as I would love to do the same it if did not cost too much.

The whole project started when i was randomly on ebay and this wheel was on for 130 buy it now. Complete with buttons, so i didnt even think twice i just bought it. Then i spent another week looking for the airbag and clockspring at a good price, and my patience paid off. I got the airbag for 400 and clockspring for 125. Then a stereo adapter for 60 which totals 715 for everything. All OEM no cheap crap. hoping to sell the old wheel setup for around 500 so its only a couple hundred dollar upgrade.

Im pretty sure the prices i got are very possible to get again, you just gotta search ebay for the auto recycling companies that part out trucks. technically theyre used but theres nothing wrong with the parts and theyre OEM so it all good. And the new wheel feels SO MUCH better than the old, both the diameter of the wheel and the material its made of make it feel like a new truck.

Now to do a power seat from a 4runner......

grats op! mine is getting here next week, pretty stoked. I called a salvage yard, they had just gotten in a 2012 so I got all the parts at once for about the same price as you, all oem parts. bought a few more things to update my interior while I was at it too.

Got everything off Ebay, apparently you're not supposed to mail airbags unless theyre in a special box but mine was shipped like anything else.

PM me if you have any issues, but i doubt you will. If you get stuck, follow the thread someone posted on here about how they added controls to their wheel, title is something like "ADDED AUDIO CONTROLS TO MY 08 TACOMA" (all caps like that). Its a great write up, and i didnt bother with a write up myself because i couldnt have done it better than him.

yeah I saw that 130$ one in the completed listings when I looked to see how common they were (not very) and I wondered who got it. at least it went to a good home. yeah regular people cant mail them cause they are classified as bombs I read.

I found the thread, bookmarked for later. already found several threads on it and ive talked with a guy on here that's already done it too.

^^ add to this thread or start a new one, id like to see how it looks. What else did you get? I want new window switches from the new tacos too... look just a little cleaner. I also wouldnt mind finding some switches that are all auto up and down, but thats another project for another time.

I uh, may have gone abit overboard...

im basically overhauling my interior and now that Toyota is done updating the 2nd gen im changing everything over to the 12+ interior. wheel, custom cluster face +led mod, dash vents/clock/ac, black center console and darker carpet. on top of that im doing a lot of carbon fiber wrapping and putting in an aftermarket stereo.

but I paid it off this month so I felt like it was time to do a little celebratory modding! ill be documenting it all in my build thread for anyone else that's interested in following my progress. and everything I take off will be for sale in the marketplace.
