I called Toyota and they said even though I had the undercoat it it's still not fixed I can still get a frame replacement. It looks good though just flaky and some spots are pitted and pretty bumpy.

wow that is a great looking 1st gen. I replaced the bulbs in my dads 1st gen dash because he had the same problem.

he only wanted me to replace the burnt ones and I said "no way", after this much work I'm replacing em all, especially since I paid for the bulbs. LMAO

Today was our first real day together and we had a good one! She shifts smooth and dries great. What should be the first mod? Kind of want to do an expedition type build.

If you're going to take anything off road at all, I will always say sliders! Rocker panels are extremely difficult to repair and look awful when smashed. Sliders are good peace of mind. I put a dent in a rocker driving over a small 4" downed tree in a road...it broke in just the right place, cantilevered up and banged the rocker. It was a small dent but it was completely avoidable and I hated how it looked. Don't be like me.

If they sprayed the frame it wasn't rusty (or enough) to cause concern. same thing they did with mine. that stuff is like tar and undercoating put together. it took awhile for it to harden and even then mine flakes behind the cabin a little. still not rusting through so the frame is covered until 2019 if it needs replaced. just keep an eye on it.

check the AT fluid and if it's still light/crimson red leave it be. if it shifts smooth then no reason to change it.

as far as the cluster lights simple enough, just got the wrangle the black trim piece out over the steering column without breaking it :)

under the flaking off coating it looks pretty bad at least to me. I will try and get some pictures. I just hope they actually tested the frame instead of just saying lets coat it to save us some work.

Nice truck man! Other than wanting a paid off truck, any other "pros" in getting back into a 1st gen? Just curious.

When I purchased my truck almost 2 years ago, it was in similar condition and mileage too (around 154k). I paid about the same price as well, but it needed new tires and did not come with a topper.

I feel like the 1st gens have more character and i like the body style better. Everyone and there moms has a second gen. Now I'm not knocking the 2nd gen there great tacoma just like any other but i didn't feel anything special getting into one. Going from touch screen and blue tooth to a first gen again makes me feel like I'm driving a truck again and not a mobile office.

Mine needs tires too there damn near bald. The topper was a selling point for me, my dogs love riding in the bed of my truck but I was concerned for there safety since they like to step up on the side of the bed.

Nice truck! Not sure if you replaced your light yet but this is what it took for me to get at mine... I'd hope there is a better way and I just didn't know about it because this was a pain and I still have extra screws laying around from it lol

surface rust is common and acceptable. if there is a hole or bad scale then it's a concern

pretty much the way you have to do it. front portion of center console, radio bezel (whole thing) then cluster trim, then cluster (be careful not to yank on it, wires are short). I put screws in my cupholder to keep them safe :)
