My new truck came with the spare tire lock from the factory.
Never needed to worry before since my trucks are garaged religiously.
Requires the use of a key like a McGard wheel lock to be used with the standard crank.
Went thru the pile of manuals and there is an envelope from McGard to register it and installation instructions.
Instructions say it is not removable?
Anyone have or know about this lock that is useless to me?

Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing your tire is safe from vermin even when not in a garage. It does more good than harm.

From what I can tell of the lock it looks like just a big Torx.
Bad guys can buy those can they?
I need to unwrap the key and see tomorrow.
Would not have even been informed about the way it works if the guy taking delivery of a Limited ahead of me had not asked and every salesman went scrambling to find the answer so when it was my turn they showed me it was in the pack with the jack handle.

I got mine in the extra stuff the dealer kicked in when I bought the truck. Mine looks like some sort of reverse hex as well. You are correct that it can be defeated by a prepared mope, but statistically that should be the exception. It is meant to slow down the other 99% so as to make them pass it by. A thief can make short work of most anti- theft devices if he comes prepared to deal with it. That is how I rationalize its use.

I also utilize the dealer anti-theft lug nuts. So far so good, but I don't live in a huge urban area and garage my truck as well.
