I have driven for about 65 years in CA and I have a couple of tickets for not having a front license plate. A fix it ticket. The only reason that I have a front one on 2 of the 3 is just because I don't like adding to a reason to be hassled. I don't have one on one of my cars (M3) because I think it looks silly. I have however had to a get fix it ticket signed off before for that one.

just an FYI, when I was in the Navy I had a vehicle registered in SC and drove brought it with me back to CA. I called the police dept in San Diego to find out if I was able to keep my front side windows tinted since the vehicle was registered in SC and they were legal there. I was told no and that I would still have to comply with CA laws.
I just bought a new GT500 2 months ago and have not put my front plate on just because theres no way in hell I'm drilling into my front bumper. theres 1 place i've found that makes a bolt on bracket but I just don't like the way it looks so i'm taking my chances of getting pulled over.

Find 3m VHB tape, no drilling and just as secure.

I have been driving with my front plate attached to the passenger sun visor in the top corner of the windshield for almost a year with no problems so far. I'm sure it's not legal but it's there.

Great find! I guess that clears up any confusion over the display of the plate.

I'll take my chances with CA once I register my truck in WV. A few people in my shop have been hassled about their tint but they just show that it's legal in the registered state and everything is good to go.

I don't plan on limo tint just cause I'm registered out of state, I'm sure that would get me hassled, I'll just do the legal 35% for WV and I think I shouldn't have too many problems.

Run the plate right or run the risk of the ticket, your choice...so roll with it. Not hard to understand.

I was asking if it was ok to run the plate like that or not. Not hard to understand I was asking a question and trying to get some information so I know what's legal and what's not, I have no desire to get pulled over. As you can see below, someone found a good legal source for an answer and not just somebody's opinion.
