I doesn't matter what oil I run. Conventional or Synthetic-Blend I change it when ever it's convenient at around 5,000. The only reason I have run synthetic blend is because it is on special some times. Never run full synthetic, but if I did I probably push it 7,500 miles between to "get my money's worth" out of it. I'm cheap. So I use what ever 9th is on special as long as it is name brand and certified.

It runs 6 quarts with the M1-209 in my truck. Can't be sure on the rest of your question.

I am very interested in using the M1-209 filter on my truck. I can see several good reasons to using a larger capacity filter. A better question would be to ask why you use the M1-209?

I use the extended size Bosch filter (3422) on my Tacoma with synthetic. It's an excellent filter because it has good media, strength, and back flow valving. Purolator/Bosch makes a great filter. I did a lot of research, and to be honest I have forgotten most of it by this point, on trying to find the best over sized filter and I think I found a winner.

I haven't used an oversized filter yet, ( I'm still getting Toyota's complementary changes) but I do bring my own Mobil 1 for them to use. The dealer calls it an upgrade, at my expense.:). All of the reasons you use a Bosch are good reasons, and I intend on doing the same thing, for the same reasons. One thing that interests me though is the check valve. Some filters don't even have one, others use a harder rubber, and the more expensive ones use a silicone one. Its job is to hold oil after the engine is shut off. It helps a lot lubricating on cold starts. With the Tacoma's filter location, piped away from the engine, vertically, could make the check valve, or seal, even more important. That was the reason for my question, and was just wondering what others opinions on this were.

Bosch uses a silicon backflow valve on all of there filters stock. Any filter without backflow prevention is not worth anything IMHO. I wouldn't even use that on a '93 Sunfire that was burning oil faster than gas.

Oh, and the bypass valve construction is actually the most important thing on a filter during a cold start. A good spring valve, like on the Bosch, ensures the valve will stay seated correctly and open only as long as the oil is cold. A lot of cheap filters use lever springs, which can unseat the valve if they bend and allow oil past the filter all the time .

It's been mentioned here before, but check out bob is the oil guy forums before choosing your filter: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php . You'll be glad you did.

I change every 3K miles. I know it's excessive, but given the operating conditions of my truck and the fact it's still on warranty I take no chances of voiding that warranty. That being said, once the warranty is gone, I'll probably extend my oil change interval to 5-7K depending on oil analysis.

Because I run 8-12k mile oil change intervals on Mobil 1 EP 5W30. The OEM and standard size filters are a risk to run this long. Additionally, the extra 0.5 quart of oil is a fringe benefit, the extra oil capacity (9%) means the oil does not wear as much by the time it is changed.

I have used the Bosch Distance Plus version of the 3422 a few times, great filter but they are hard to find here, and the similar Mobil 1 M1-209 can be found at my local AutoZone.

If you do the 10K interval, be sure to use a quality oil filter. For me that's a dealer filter.

My truck is still a pup, so I haven't decided yet about synthetic. One thing I like about 3K oil changes(dino) is you get to crawl around under the truck more often. Better chance of catching problems early on.

For some, it's a matter of economics. You do the best you can.

I typically change it at 5000 miles, BUT I don't like working in my garage when we have 30 degree or less weather. So I've been due for an oil change, but it hasn't happened yet @ 6000 miles and I'm not too worried about it since I use Mobil1 w/ the Toyota filter.
