Kenwood vs Blaupunkt

I'm looking to add an amp to my stereo, currently have 6x8s in the doors, 50 watt nominal, 260 max.

So far, I'm looking at this

Kenwood 500W 2 Channels Performance Standard Series Stereo Power Car Amplifier with 4 Gauge Red Amplifer Kit and Gravity Magnet Phone Holder Bundle

Kenwood and this Blaupunkt. They're both pretty similar, I think the Kenwood has a little more power.

Which would you pick? Or should I go for more power?

 

Used to run Blaupunkt when I was younger and cared how bad ass my systems were. Never had an issue. Dallas head unit, almost remote control before any thoughts of remote.

 

Didn't see distortion specs in the links. Look that up and compare before you make a decision, though they're probably close to each other. It doesn't matter if it peaks at 50wpc if it starts to distort and sound like crap at 12wpc. My ADS amps are rated to 60wpc, and will play cleanly all the way up to that.

 

Good point. The Kenwood claims 1.0% thd or less, the blaupunkt claims 0.08%. Looks like the Blaupunkt has a better S/N ratio as well- about 5 DB better. Looks like the Blaupunkt should sound better- on paper at least.

 

i ran a kenwood 4channel in a 3channel mode ( front components ch1&2 8" sub ch3) no issues at all.

 

Seeing that spec makes that choice easier. If that's your budget I'd spend the extra $15 and go with the Blaupunkt.

 

Are you really going to hear a difference between 1% and 0.08% THD?? I seriously doubt it.

Hard to imagine someone would make a car stereo buying decision based on audio specs most of which are purely used for marketing and are pretty meaningless under actual listening conditions (road, tire, wind and engine noise).

I think most people would buy a car stereo based upon the desired feature set, price, vehicle fit and brand reputation.

 

Most people, if they know there is a significant difference (1% vs .08% is slightly over an order of magnitude), will report that they can tell the difference, whether or not they actually can. It is a similar to how most people will report that a more expensive wine tastes better than a cheaper wine when they know the price of both wines (There is actual research that proves this). It is a form of cognitive bias.
