So my truck has been shifting pretty rough over the past 6 months, for instance. When I come to an abrupt stop as soon as I let off on the brake my truck will surge forward or act like it is in neutral for a few seconds while I have my foot on the gas to move then it will shift forward. Also while making turns, half way through the turn it seems to not want to shift or go out of gear. Lastly while accelerating it sometimes takes forever to shift to the next gear. I'm not sure if anyone else has had problems like this. Does anyone think that I have a faulty shift solenoid.

Just a few specs on truck. I have roughly around 50k and have changed tranny oil once

Pretty sure you'd notice this, but anyway, do you have a fluid leak? Sounds like it could be symptoms of low tranny fluid.

No my fluids are good. But it may be a good idea if I flush it out, and take a look to see if there is any shavings in it. Since sometimes like I said it won't shift probably so I could be at 2500 rpm and nothing happen for a second and then it jerks like hell into gear

You might be low on fluid if it can't hold the gear while cornering, that's usually an indicator

The reason I posted my response was because I had a rusted line on my Mitsu Outlander a few years back. And the symptoms you described - my truck will surge forward or act like it is in neutral for a few seconds while I have my foot on the gas to move then it will shift forward. Also while making turns, half way through the turn it seems to not want to shift or go out of gear. Lastly while accelerating it sometimes takes forever to shift to the next gear - were exactly what I experienced, particularly your last point. Fixed line, topped up tranny fluid, and everything was fine.

these same exact symptoms can happen when water gets in there from a broken radiator cooler...I know I've been there with a tranny that got corrupted and it was dying on me

these same symptoms can happen from a bad seal, o-ring, or solenoid, or valve body

same symptoms from low or too much fluid, but OP says it is fine

whatever the cause it's not gonna get better by itself

    ---------------------------
So....when in drive, after a stop...the first gear is not happening until SLAM

test: when you manually shift to first, when gear lever position 1 is selected, the manual valve directs fluid at line pressure to the front clutch and to the rear band servo.

TEST: every time you stop, manually shift it to first, does it always engage and no issues ? Automatic control of 1st gear changes may be over-ridden by use of the shifter

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I wonder if the throttle position sensor is going south or a shift solenoid in the tranny. 50k? Have you changed the spark plugs?

I will take all of your suggestions. I will recheck the oil. and insure I have no water or coolant is in it. I will update the post after that. I have changed the oil in it myself last time along with the filter. It was a pain. I don't understand why Toyota went with the sealed tranny. I may just let the dealer deal with it this time.
