Most of these develop a small hole on the inside frame rail next to the catalytic converters up front. A small 1 inch or so hole there isn't unsafe at all to drive but it will obviously get much worse over time. In many states it won't pass state inspection either. That's when my brother in law found out about it on his 05 last year. It failed inspection. So he brought it to Toyota (this was before they began the campaign) and they agreed to replace the frame. But it took several months to get all the parts to do the job and he had a truck that was illegal to drive. Fortunately he had his company truck but it would have put him in a terrible position if it was his only vehicle.

I agree with what your saying, but if something happens it's their fault, right? I'm trying to get the official list of parts from the dealership now because there are a few things I want them to fix. Oil is leaking somewhere underneath the truck, so I might have them fix that.

One question I have is whether or not the trailer hitch is going to be replaced. I did find a parts list online, but I haven't received one from the dealer, and it says both the front and rear bumpers are replaced. My trailer hitch is in rough shape, and it's connected to the bumper, so they should replace it!?!?!

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
They did not replace the hitch on my truck. This was a factory hitch and wiring. Its rusty but no more than normal compared to other hitch's I see at the boat ramp. It could easily be taken off, sand blasted and painted.
I do have the list of what they replaced, can anyone provide me with a link to the Toyota parts list? Thanks. MJEFF

No doubt it cost plenty to do the frame and various parts. Exactly why I was trying to get Toyota to give me a really good deal on my truck as a trade in. Perhaps if I had bought the truck there and had a history with them, I might have done better.
One of my neighbors had a 2001, it had severe rust and they gave him 15K on a trade towards a 2010.

When I get the Toyota price list I will add up the parts from my truck and post it. MJEFF

So everything changed once Mrs. PEZ got involved.
She called the dealership, the regional person and 1800GOTOYOTA.

According to PA state inspections, the truck would not pass inspection with a hole in the frame.
So, when asked, the dealership said that when my inspection runs out, then they would put me in a rental.
We asked, if it is not safe to pass inspection, then how is it safe to drive now?
No answer from dealership on that....

For now, I am in a 2015 Camry SE with 650 miles on it.
Mrs. PEZ told them we needed something larger. They "pulled strings" and are getting us a Highlander.
What we really need is a truck with a hitch. That's why I bought a truck with a hitch.
We were told they dont rent out vehicles with hitches for liability reasons.

So I asked, when I need to pull a trailer in the next few months, what do I do?
    They had no answer.

I think it's really wrong of Toyota and the dealerships to send people back out with these rusty frames knowing they wouldn't pass inspection.

I'll tell you what. I do want my truck during the waiting time frame they need to replace the frame. Most of the mods we do aren't legal some they aren't dot approved or off road use only.

I have trips and things planned that I will need my truck for. 5 months is a long time.

Most of the things we do won't pass inspection of the inspector is really going by the book.

Just got the recall letter in the mail. My 2005 frame looks brand new. I suppose I'm lucky or that California is easy on frames.

I had the recall done on mine two Thursdays ago and not only were the sloppy and overly generous in the amount used, but the compound isn't fully dry yet. Over sprayed lots of items...
