Hello folks! New member here. I'm in the market to buy a used Tacoma, ideally least than $20k, must be Prerunner or better and must be Quad cab.

I own two old old F150 trucks and a Ford Focus, I'm selling my trucks and trading in my car to buy a Tacoma so that way I only have one functional vehicle with good enough mpg to be my daily driver.

My issue is that I love the prerunner quad cab trucks, they look amazing, are small enough to be maneuvered easily, but I worry about the MPG in the V6. I would love to buy an L4 especially since both my current trucks are L6 engines (and they are badass) but in my area the market is like 1 to 20 L4 to V6.

Is it worth it to continue to hunt down the Oh so elusive L4 or would I be served fine with the V6?

I haul a 14ft utility trailer sometimes and carry lumber and stuff like that on occasion, but I actually work as a Paramedic and my normal drive is 30 minutes.

    Thanks!!!

Where do you live? Do you need 4WD??

If you're doing any towing or hauling, I would definitely go with the V6. You're better off having it now - vs - wishing you had it later. Afterall.... you have room to haul more and bigger things.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
For a double cab, I wouldn't go with anything less than a V6 believe me. I've had 4 cylinders and they get the job done, but I think they are at their best in regular cab trucks only. MPG all depends on your driving habits, some guys get 12, some guys get 22 with their V6. Right now, I average about 17 on winter gas with mine and it's the older, less efficient 3.4 V6.

I live in Mobile AL, 36606. Yeah you're probably right, it's just hard to make the choice seeing the mpg people get with their L4s lol! I definitely don't need 4x4!

Y'all make very good points. My focus gets 30mpg and my trucks get 10mpg so I'm just hoping for about 20 from this truck and I'll be happy. Granted I'm an impatient person so my mpg probably suffers, haha!!

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
For that kind of money and maybe a lower interest rate you could buy new.

And in all honesty, the I4's don't get much better mileage, maybe 1-3 mpg better. Even with my old one, it would drop down to 16 or lower driving around in town sometimes. I myself honestly like having the extra power at hand when I need it and if I feather it, my V6 can do pretty good.

Never driven one with this configuration, but the 4-cyl has got to be a pig in a double cab. I couldn't imagine choosing that over the V6.

Good feedback, thanks folks!! I'll probably be going with the V6 then, many options around here for sure.

If your going to tow, get the V6. The 4 is a great, little motor but it doesnt have the punch of the V6.
