Cleared the code once again, drove 240 miles, CEL returned. Disconnected battery for 1 hour, installed the passenger side rear O2 sensor. I used part - Denso 234-4260 ordered from Amazon for $52. Very easy to install and now I've went 300 miles with no CEL. Hopefully it's fixed. If it returns, I'll post again. Thanks to everyone for the help!

    After 3 days of ownership.

Pulled both the P0138 code and the P0606 code. Going to order the rear 02 and replace that.

    TW....THANK YOU!

More information. When I started the truck today, the CEL came on. I hooked up my ODB tool, scanned her, same codes, cleared them. I then left my app running and monitored all the engine check lists. On the 23 mile drive to work, everything came back complete and good, besides the EVAP system, which wasnt done.

Im curious as to why the O2 Sensor system would check out complete/good on the drive, but throw the P0138 and P0606 upon start up.

    Anyone have and insight?

Only had the truck a week and havent gotten to know her workings yet.

All of the online research/forums are telling me other wise. Ive been researching and reading all morning.

Many people have had the same P0138 with P0606 codes thrown. They change out he sensor causing the P0138 code, reset the system and have had no further problems.

Ill be doing that before dealing with a bad ECU, which I doubt.

Was just curious about others who may have been readin the same thing.

^ok maybe o2 was dunked/drowned or otherwise electrically puked

the ecu code is valid as it is getting an overvolt condition
so if o2 replace corrects it then... yep

We have had nothing but rain storms all week. Ive seen a lot mention water or moisture being an issue.

I ordered a new O2 and will monitor the current 02s to see what happenes.

Blacktaco2042, wondering if you could help me out? Was looking to buy a used fj cruiser. 2007 it has codes for both banks insufficient catalyst ,I think 420,430 then it had the 606 code. I was wondering if maybe the cats are fine and it just has bad O2 sensors? I know the rears are O2 and the fronts are heated sensors. Just doing a little research before I buy something I can't fix or is stupid expensive. The 606 has me a little worried. Sorry to thread jack just looking for quick answers before it's sold and I regret not buying it. Oh and it has 120,000 miles on it.

Wish it was that easy, the truck is part of an estate. The poor kid just lost his dad out of nowhere. Now the light is on and he has to liquidate everything to settle the estate with the rest of the family. He took it to Toyota and they said cats would fix the problem, but we all now how costly those are. It would be ideal if I could buy it right and do a little work to get it up and going. Other than the light , the fj is in really good shape and well cared for.

    Hey all,
Literally made an account to say this, but I recently had the same issue and you guys saved, replaced both downstream O2 sensors (15min job) and fixed the CEL. Appreciat everyone that takes the time to help people out on here, you’re heroes!

I just had my HG fixed last summer. A month ago this code P0606 popped up. I cleared the code and now Im starting to have misfires on cyl 5 and 6. Would changing this sensor fix all this? Right now its back at the mechanic. He’s gonna do another compression test. If that turns out good he suspects its the fuel injectors. I didnt tell him about the P0606 code since it hasnt popped up in over a month and hasnt came back.
