A few OE parts from fancy trucks
My Gy6.35 bulbs came yesterday. The ones from eBay that nd4spdbh linked us to; 10 bulbs for $7.73.

I opened up the driver side taillight, snipped about 1/8" off the pins, closed the gap on the female receptacles in the socket, installed the lamp, reinstalled the taillight and tested/comparing to the OE passenger side.

Much better lightning. While it does appear brighter looking from the outside, the real improvement is when in cab and using the side mirrors. Nicely improved illumination of the ground area around the truck, and for some vertical distance behind as well.

Since I'd only done one side, it was a very dramatic difference looking in one mirror vs the other side.

Is it perfect? Probably not. I'm sure if I was back on the farm I could use more light, and if I was an off roader, I'd likely just cut in the Rigid flush mount SQ whatevers.

But when you get 10 bulbs for $7.73, and a great improvement for city use, it's a nice cheap mod that should up the safety factor a bit.

I've not checked yet, but guessing my Highlander uses a similar wedge OE bulb. So I'll upgrade it, keep a pair for spares, and still be able to upgrade two family/friends vehicles.

$1.55 per vehicle is well worth the effort.

Just bought these today while picking up the new snowblower. Didn't realize till just now bought the wrong 50 watt. Wanted the 12v not 120v.

I picked up a set of 9 led bulbs from Walmart the other day for $12 or $13. Of course I can't find this online...anywhere. Model number is IL-194W-9WK. It's listed as a 194/921 bulb. Works without issue, I haven't had a chance to look at the light output difference.

It's similar to this one, but has more leds.

Did the 886 mod on my 11 with no issues. That said, I didn't drive in reverse for long. I wouldn't recommend keeping it in reverse very long (such as driving off road) as it could melt your housing. I'm getting ready to throw some Rigids back there and reverse won't be a problem at all :)

Enlighten me... what is this mod?

    -------------------------------------

OK, I looked it up. 12v Halogen with G 6.35 base. What wattage did you use, and did you use halogen or LED?

Just installed these. Much brighter than the stock bulbs. All I did was use a mini screw driver to push the pins the hold the bulb in the socket together and stuck these in. Worked perfectly. And they only cost me $3.61 per year!
