    No significant mods....yet
After only 10,000 mi, my fan on a 2014 taco was making a buzzing sound when I had it on high. However, it was below freezing temperature when I heard the annoying sound. I've heard that in colder temperatures, the bearings in the fan motor are more susceptible to making noise as the lubricant oil is more viscous and doesn't sufficiently cycle in the bearings or something. In warmer weather it appears to operate normally so far, so it's hard to know how to completely solve this noise.

Put a drop of oil right where the shaft and bearing are (under the cap). That's as far as I wanted to go. So far so good. If it comes back I'll just get the new Fan Assembly.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but in case anyone cares, I ordered the latest version (87103-04043 ) of the blower which looks considerably different. I crosschecked the other numbers on it and this appears to be it:

    http://www.xiuyanqipei.com/product/showproduct5859.html

I got tired of lubricating it every winter and the most recent attempt I broke it. Sounded like a leaf blower.

    So far so good.

Wow, tons of info in this thread. Read all 61 pages over the weekend :)

Bought a used 09 a month ago and blower has driven me nuts. After reading all this I removed today and noticed it's the 42 version. I'm guessing that means it probably got replaced under warranty (I'm second owner).

I decided to just removed the motor cover and add about 6-7 drops of 3-1 oil. Put back in and it's quiet!! Woohoo.

I guess I'll just wait and see. It only took 15 min so I may do 1-2 more times but after that I'll just drop the $125 and install the 43.

    Thanks all!

So you didn't buy an oem blower? Did you buy it from that Chinese vendor directly?

    Update.

Noise came back two weeks later. Bought the 43 from Amazon and installed.

Noise gone. I'm happy. Thanks all.

I just talked to a parts guy at Mayfield Toyota in Edmonton, AB Canada, and he said they just got in a new blower motor in the last month. He refused to give the part number over the phone, which he eventually admitted, was so that I wouldn't buy it online somewhere. Price was $197 CDN. Does anyone know, if they have released a newer motor in the last couple of months?

I stopped in today after calling the dealership, and they said there is a new model after the 043. He spat the number at me, which I believe was 04404, 04044. Something like that. They are trying to decide if they are going to warranty my blower motor, since I bought the truck in the US, and want to get it Warrantied in Canada. Apparently the new motor is back ordered. My 2013 probably already had the 043, which ticks like crazy when its below -10 Degrees Celsius (Northern Alberta).

Well hopefully they do it for you. Been 2 winters since on the -43 series blower change and been working good for me (Northern Sask).

I recently tried Tri-Flo on my old blower motor and it works pretty well...except for after very long trips when I presume the motor bearing gets warm, then it starts to quietly chirp. I would actually recommend the tri-flow for those trying to avoid buying the 043 motor.

That said, I broke down and finally bought the 043 on Amazon and swapped it in today, because I don't event want to think about it again.
