Headed out to Moab last weekend for my annual fall trip, we camped next to Hell Roaring Canyon near Dead Horse. Matt (09blacktaco) joined me, as well as a few other friends without trucks. Friday after Matt made it into town we ran Poison Spider, starting kinda late, and got out just at dark. This was one of the first Moab trails I ran when my truck was a baby, so it was cool to revisit since it has grown up and run the harder obstacles on the trail.

This might be the steepest thing I have ever gone up, one that you almost think you could flip on. Matt couldn't keep his ass out of the sand and was unable to get all 4 wheels to the wall, same spot he is going down in the last pics, right next to the sand bowl.

Thanks, Moab is always very photographic. It was anywhere from the 90's on Friday mid-day to 50's at night. It rained pretty good on Saturday night and Sunday morning cooling it off, Saturday was cloudy all day as well, 70's during the day.

Caught an amazing sunrise Saturday morning.

Then it was off to Flat Iron Mesa, a trail neither of us had done. Lots of cool rock formations, some fun ledges and harder obstacles, some sheer canyon walls. Neither of us could make it up the last feature on the Chute, might need a front locker for that one.

Didn't get many pics of the rest of the weekend, it rained a TON Saturday night through Sunday AM, we packed up and ran Bartlett Wash Overlook>Hidden Canyon Overlook on the way out, the trails started pretty much where we were camping. Not very difficult, but got some good views, trail finding and a TON of mud on the exit to 131, Blue Hills road.

Wish I had gotten some pics of the mud and flooding at the end, that was pretty nasty shit, I think I will be dripping mud out all winter.

It is, the first part of the Chute is super easy, but this last pitch is pretty tough. Once the fronts are over, the rears need to climb a 2-3' wall that is pretty much vertical. I couldn't even get my front tires on the top, I was hitting two ledges (F/R) at the same time, no locker. Matt was pretty damn close though, front locker or bigger (37's) would have probably gotten it.

Thanks, fun trip as Moab always is. Ready for 2015!

    2015?

Its a good trail, the first part is kinda boring without great scenery, but once you get to the section where the Chute is, there are back to back to back obstacles, then the second half is on the rim of that canyon, which is pretty cool as well.

Probably not. Not unless I can get an ARB rear locker by then. Which I doubt. Unless my dad is wanting to go super bad then we will come i bet

definitely have to get back to flat iron...we just did a tease of it in the spring...mainly looking for a place to shoot some stuff...the chute is a sweet section for sure...we shot back to highway after the chute when it meets up with a easy dirt road...

    how was that tippy section?

It is a cool trail in that there are a bunch of exits, so you can get to certain sections without doing the whole trail or if you need to bail.

Easter Egg was way easier than it is described, but there were also a bunch of rocks thrown in the hole that keep you from leaning into the rock that causes damage. You can see the pile just in front of Matt's passenger rear here.
