A serious question for you tech heads.....

You're smart TV is hooked up to Internet and/or wifi.
If your connection is locked or protected... How can they spy on you?

 

They can't if you aren't connected to the internet.

Edit: They can't if your tv is not connected to the internet.

 

Did you actually read how it works? It's not that complicated.

Once connected to the network, it's a two way tool.

The concept is just like OnStar and your GPS enabled phone, only they do different things.

 

And then where is the value in owning a 'smart' TV?

 

I wouldn't know? I don't own one nor plan to.

 

I don't have one. But I could see that being a little upsetting. Not that I would care what Samsung hears me saying. But as many things that are hacked, especially recently. I wouldn't want my potential info floating out there.

For example. My wife was doing the taxes in our family room, which is where our desktop is. I was watching tv. She yelled over to confirm my SSN. So I'm sure numbers would be something it picks up. Then my SSN is out there floating around in Samsung cyberspace. It's floating around in enough cyberspace already. I don't need a TV speech to text company having it.

 

Already forgot about NSA huh?

I don't care to have any uninvited noses all up in my business.

 

So my question is.. what if you are watching a movie .. and they say certain key words in the movie which trigger the TV to record what you are saying. What would happen then?

 

I went home and shouted a bunch of choice words at it. Nothing happened that I could tell, but it did make me happy.

 

Yell ISIS or Radical Muslim. See if anyone knocks on your door.

 

If they really want anything nothing will stop them and the sad thing is most people just don't care.

 

I may or may not have said something slightly reminiscent of those words.
