I have a 2013 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic (FLSTC ~ 750 lbs)
and a 2006 Double Cab short bed PreRunner SR5 Tacoma

I saw a thread here a month ago where people hauled their dirt bike, but just wondered if anyone had hauled a Harley around and if their tailgate survived.

    Thanks

You better get some air bags or upgraded leaf springs.

I wouldn't chance it......but mine is too high to load a bike anyway.

I was in a pickle and had to move my (2012 FXDC "superglide custom" probably a little lighter) a couple miles and was a little sketched out. When loading we put a 2x12 under the Harley to keep the majority of the wait off the tailgate. backed into the ditch by the driveway to lower the height we had to roll up. Once it was in the bed it wasn't a big deal, its the tailgate that will give you problems. As far as the load on the suspension I do not suggest traveling more then a mile or two with it back there. Much safer to use a small utility trailer.

My tailgate survived but if you can move your bike another way I defiantly would chose that.

Don't do it. Of course it can be done, but I had to use mine to pickup my road king when it broke down. It worked but left a few dents in my tailgate. Harley's are heavy, best to use a trailer.

    Cheers,
    Kyle

I wondered about this - I will ride the Harley most of the time, but it would be nice to haul it sometimes -
Sounds like this would work for a short trip, but I guess I need to start looking for a deal on a trailer

Even with the tailgate down you would be pushing it for length.

Not a Harley fan :) ........ But get a MC trailer, easier to load/unload and a good investment.
