I'll have to go back through my expenses and see what my all-in amount was. I did a few additional things along the way, to include replacing my rear axle, building a cable operated ADD, cable operated FJ case, and making some transmission mistakes along the way. (I have an extra 750f sitting on the floor of my garage that was poorly handled by the salvage yard I bought it from. Too much of a PITA to return it so I kept it.)

I have a few hundred bucks of extra parts to sell also... 750e tranny, prerunner driveshaft, extra front diff, 2 a.d.d. actuators, bell housing from v-8 4runner 4x4, 750f tail section for v8 4runner.

Although I think my cable operated xfer case came out good, I spent a shitload of time on it and still had to cut a hole in my tunnel. Knowing what I know now, I could do cable shifted again without cutting a hole - many lessons learned with my conversions, but fab'ing from the hip slows things down a bit.

    Good luck with your conversion.

What made you want to setup cable shifters? The lack of space with the transmission shifter?

It seemed like it would be a cleaner install and provide more options on shifter locations. I could put them anywhere. Although I brought them up in the front right cupholder, just like fixed shifters are, I could have put them anywhere.

The other thing you can check instead of pulling your dash was to see if Toyota ran those wires to the intermeddiate connections between the dash and the 4wd ECU.

For the locker wire, looks like connector IB1 terminal 4, located in the drivers side kick panel.

The 4x4 and 4lo are at connector IJ1 terminal 6 and 7 respectively, located by the passenger kick panel
    [IMG]

hooking up to these would be more "stockish" utilizing the stock wiring harness that goes to the cluster to bring the signal, and you tapping in at the connection that goes from the 4wd ECU to the dash connector. Again I'm not sure if you have those wires ran for the non-locker prerunner truck but it might be worth a shot to take a peek.

Thanks. I've been looking at those diagrams. I'll give it a try later today. I did confirm that the white connector taped to your relay does exist in my truck with what appears to be same wire colors and positions, best I can tell from your picture.

I made it out of 2 pieces of the thickest flat stock I could find at Home Depot. To accommodate the offset that was needed due to the prerunner and 4x4 trucks having slightly different tranny crossmember locations, one piece is welded inside the end pieces, the other i welded on the outside. In the center where the tranny mount meets the crossmember, I welded in some heavy angle iron for the mount to bolt to, but that isnt shown in this picture.

I messed around trying to find IJ1 6 & 7 for little while, then gave up and pulled the gauge cluster to tap in there. The pins I was looking for were 14, 15 and 16 on the right connector, aka C10. What I found was pin 14, Blue-Yellow, for the Diff-Lock indicator light was there, pins and wires for 15 & 16, 4wd and 4Lo indicators were not there.

I found a similar connector in my toolbox and punched 2 pins out to become my 15 & 16.

I spliced some extra wire to the 2 new pins and cut Blue-Yellow #14 and added some wire to it.

    Contacting ground lights them up.

    Locker: red LED
    [IMG]

    4WD: Green LED
    [IMG]

    4Lo: Amber LED
    [IMG]

I was able to get the locker light completed by attaching the lead to the correct pole on my aftermarket switch controlling the locker. Works like a champ. I wasnt able to get it to work using the locker position switch on the rear axle.

I tested the 4WD switch on the transfer case and was able to get the indicator to light up when in 4WD, but didnt have time to permanently route the wires, so I'll revisit this weekend. I havent tested the switch for LO range, but suspect I will be able to control the light no problem.

Regarding that crack in my gauge cluster... that happened a couple years ago when I did Blue LEDS - I didnt see one of the locking tabs and ripped that sucker in two... just never replaced it. That was my first time going into the cluster.

    And heres everything lit up.

Wired up the transfer case shift sensors for the dash lights this afternoon. 2 wires on each sensor. One goes straight to the dash light, the other to ground. I tested both individually before running the conduit and sealing everything up, but didnt test both at the same time. I used a common ground point for the 2 sensors. Either I messed up one of the wires while making it all permanent, or the 4Lo sensor doesnt like sharing a ground point with the 4wd sensor. When I tested after sealing everything up, 4LO light didnt work anymore. 4wd light still works when shifting the lever. I'll try a diferent ground point, double check my connections, etc.. for 4LO and see if that fixes it.

4WD side, up and over the transfer case. My xfer case cables keep the wiring safely away from moving parts.

Figured out the wiring. Damn sure wasnt common grounding, theres common grounds all over the truck. It helps to wire to the correct shift sensor. I had wired in to the Neutral switch and testing I wasnt throwing the HI-Lo shifter all the way in to LO. I saw the 4Lo light come on, but I was only in Neutral. When I was done, i moved the shifter all the ay to LO, which passes the neutral switch, so obviously no indicator light, just a quick flicker. Now that I have the indicator light connected to the correct switch, its all better.

Also got my second FJ knob in the mail. I sanded off the J-pattern on both shift knobs. Was thinking about putting my patterns on each knob, but I kinda like it without. I'm also getting used to having no shift boots. I think I'm going to call this project done.

Thanks to all for input and motivation along the way. Last shots...

So did you take off your PreRunner badge or are you leaving it for the stealth factor?

Leave prerunner badge. Add 4x4 mud flaps. When someone asks which one is a lie. Neither
