I have a feeling this is going the same direction as the other arbitration thread. Too bad for OP.

I wonder if his plan is still to take up a class action lawsuit against automakers who use lead crimp weights on aluminum rims if arbitration fails to remedy his issues.

    Update:

We reached a mutual agreement that was reasonable for both parties which is all we expected in the beginning. I will get new rims at some point more then likely when I replace the tires.

The Arbitration was a joke as we expected. My theory with the Arbitration is that they try to wear you down, and this was what we experienced. Unfortunately, you have to do the Arbitration before you can go to the next step. Florida has a very aggressive Lemon Law and I would advise anyone with issues take the appropriate steps needed to enforce your claim. The manufacturers know the majority of consumers don't put up a fight and that's why they pocket millions yearly in denied warranty claims.

After my first "free" oil change and tire rotation at the dealer (Bryan Easler Toyota- Hendersonville, NC), I signed the slip for the dealership to be paid by TOYOTA....then left. Then I heard a small quit voice that said, "check your oil". I pulled over and my oil was BLACK. Also my tires had not been rotated, reference where I rubbed the curb parking the day before. I went back to dealership and showed service manager my black oil...He advised me to go to waiting room, while they try again. I stayed with my truck as this young guy asked me how much oil my truck would hold as he started to pour in conventional oil instead of synthetic. As I got him straight, I vowed to never go back for any kind of service work.

I did call TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE. They advised calling the dealer manager. When I did call, he was away. The receptionist said not to tell anyone, "but they do that all the time". She did apologize and said it wasn't right. So...................

Same experience regarding the removal of the outside tire weights. Went back to the dealer who did the tire balancing (first time since purchasing the vehicle brand new)and was told "we didn't do that". Pardon me for being female but I do know enough about my own vehicle and I too am very meticulous about my truck. After a go around with the service manager, they agreed to fix the damage. Per the General Manager, this damage is unavoidable due to the weights were on the outside of the rims. If this is the case then HEADS UP future Tacoma buyers/owners. It's ok for the dealer to mess up your rims "it doesn't decrease the value of the vehicle when trading it in" THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE, the vehicle is MINE! not yours and I have no intensions of getting rid of it, if I wanted the rims fudged up I would like to do it myself. ROTFLMAO-kudos to the GM for his poor eyesight, I don't really want to look like I was borne yesterday but hey 30 would be nice! Since it's unavoidable per say, then make the public aware of this when shoving these maintenance suggestions in your face when all you wanted was an oil change. The more you get the customer to purchase the fatter the service writers pockets. Good luck to you on resolving this issue, I had to act a fool to get it fixed. And now that "it's unavoidable" heads up on the next time.

Most modern wheel balancers have an "Aluminum" or "Mag" wheel setting. This setting will allow the operator to locate the inner weight on the inside inner edge of the wheel as normal and the outside weight on the inside outer surface instead of the outside edge. Allot of techs don't know it's there or how to use it. See pics. When you have your wheel balanced ask for this type of balance. No weights on the outside face of the wheel. Note that using these weight locations is not quite as good a way as using the outer edge of the rim but is satisfactory in most cases. I have FJ 8 hole wheels on my TRD with 265/70 17 tires and no balance issues.
