    Please Advise...

I have a 2.7L and replacing the upper water outlet with new gauge sender switch. I purchase two brand new parts from toyota with my VIN verified.

The sensor doesn't screw all the way in (like halfway) to the water outlet. I brought this concern to toyota and they said its "not suppose to go all the way in." So then i had them mount the sensor where they think is to be the correct position. (pic included)

Can you guys tell me if this is how your water temp sender switch sensor sits? My old one did sit flush all the way down but toyota said the previous owner probably did it wrong and torqued it all the way down.

Look forward to your guys responses...

    thanks,

The sensor probably has pipe threads on it. Not to belittle you but pipe threads do not screw all the way together. The threads taper creating a seal. As long as the sensor is tight which it appears it is and with the Teflon tape on it, you shouldn't have any problems. Shouldn't leak.

This is what i was told too, my concern isn't so much about the leak but the position of the sensor tip not being fully submerged inside the pipe to get a accurate reading.

Why would they make the treads on the sensor so high up if it only goes in half way? Just using common sense to figure this out

It be nice if people can tell me how theirs look like.

    thanks

I would think as long as the sensor tip is touching the water you are good to go.

I'm late to the party. :luvya:

To answer the original question, the depth at which that sender is installed is exactly the same as the stock one I have sitting in front of me. So it's good to go.

I found the thread via google, but I have some questions of my own. What exactly is this sender supposed to do? I see there is a coolant temperature sensor on the back of the engine, so which does what and do I need either of them??
