I have searched, but can't find any mention of this. Today I realized life would be easier in the new 2015 Access cab if I had a backup camera. My old 98 was much easier to deal with in cramped parking lots.
I checked my truck and it would seem I have more than one wire running to the cab from the plug under the tailgate. I also get the warning on the Etune screen to watch it when I turn on the truck. If I have to I will order the module from Camera Source or the fellow on Ebay, but I can't help but wonder if there isn't a generic module that would work. If there is how do you connect it with the existing OEM plug. I am not even sure if you use the plug I assume is behind the tailgate latch or the one under the tailgate. Most of the generic cameras use RCA plugs.
Has anyone retrofitted a generic camera or should I just go ahead and order the much more expensive one? If you have how did you make the connections on a prewired truck?
Why in hell Toyota has a convenience package without a camera is beyond me, but it seems they do things their own way :-(

I have seen the modules offered on eBay, just not sure how you wire them up to the stock wiring that I am assuming runs to the tailgate handle. I can fabricate a method to mount an aftermarket module, but sorting out the wiring would likely give me fits. I am thinking that it might be worth it to get the Camera Source plug and play module.b

I should mention that I have bad essential tremors. Watching me deal with things like wiring can be rather humorous. If I can just plug things in I am good.

Might check some of the local junk yards for a wrecked truck that has the camera in the tailgate if you want to keep it OEM?

Not to jack this thread, but since you mention this, can a newer tailgate with a camera be hooked into an aftermarket receiver or head unit or rear view mirror?

That M&R price looks very good. Thanks for the info. I might also try a couple of local junkyards for one too.

also interested in this. seems like there should be a easy way to wire a $20 backup camera into the factory wiring to work with the stock head unit.

That was my thought. If you could find the plug with wires to use the installed wires, you could attach any module. A little solder and heat shrink and you would be set.

Yes there are ways to do it.. a few options are:

(My truck doesn't have any sort of pre-wire for a camera like some of the newer trucks so I had do do it all from scratch...)

    1. you can get an aftermarket Mirror with the built in monitor, and then wire it to a backup camera.
    2. buy a kit that has a dash or windshield mounted monitor and camera.
    3. buy a head unit that has backup camera capability.

    I did option #3.

    I bought this head unit:

    and this camera:
    http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092YMZJY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Wired them up and it works very well!

I have the avn6620 head unit. I bought one of the ebay cameras and the Eclipse RCA video adapter and just ran the RCA cable up along the frame to under the dash and tapped the power from the backup lights. Only thing is I have not figured out how to automatically have the camera come on when shifting into reverse. It's a manual process, but it works well.
