New to subs/amps. Any help appreciated

I want a sub/amp that adds enough bass to feel but not to rattle the whole truck. I have read good reviews on the Pioneer TS-SW2502S4. What amp/ what wiring? What do i need to know? Please educate me. Thanks

 

You just need either a Mono Sub amp or a two channel amp you can bridge to one channel and an amp wiring kit. Probably 4 or 8 gauge wiring with a set of RCA's to run from your deck to the amp. That sub handles 300watts RMS so look for an amp that puts out 300-400 at 4ohms since that is the impedance of voice coil that sub has.

Would i be able to wire it up to the stock radio or do i need to buy a new one?

You simply splice into you stock speaker wire and it converts it into an RCA so you can connect it to the amp's inputs.

Or you can get an aftermarket receiver that has RCA's already on the back of it.

 

Nice i would like to keep my stock one since i like the simple oem look. Would 300 w power that sub well enough? Or would a higher, 400 watt amp be better?

 

I have an 8" sub in my 4runner that handle 200w and I'm running 300w to it with no issues.

Usually amps are not 100% efficient. A class AB (usually 2-4 channel amps)amp is only 60-70% efficient and class D amps (usually monosub amps) are closer to 85%. That means if your run 400w RMS at 4ohms you'll actually get 250w to 340w of actual power produced depending on the class of amp you wind up going with

 

I did some more research and found this Kenwood XR600-1 eXceleon amp. With it being 400 watts rms at 4 ohms, i think it would work well with the sub since it would have a little more power than what the sub is rated at right?

 

So this is the setup im thinking about getting... With this being my first sub/amp ever, i want to make sure it will be a good setup... Anything i should change or add?

The efficiency is based on the power it consumes to make its output or other way around for rational. If an amp draws 120A @ 12v that should product 1440Watts @ 100% efficiency, but since amps are not, they will consume More Amps to produce the same amount of power. IF the amp amp is only 80% efficient then instead of 120A it will actually use 150A to produce 1440Watts

another question: i got the speaker line to rca adapter shown above, but what wires do i tap into? also what wire does my remote wire go for the amp?

 

Connect the RCA adapter to the factory speaker wires anywhere along them. Be sure the crimp them tightly to ensure maximum signal.

Connect the remote wire to a switched fuse or you can look for a pin out of your factory deck and tap into the remote turn on there (if it has one).Some factory decks have them for factory amps and cd changers.

 

Would it hurt the amp or anything else to tap into the wires directly? I read somewhere that tapping into the wires could hurt the amp since the oem head unit is so weak...
