I have a 2008 sr5 4 banger with only 68k on it and yesterday it started to run a little funny a little rough idle then it was shaking a little when id go into gear. It seemed fine once i was driving then the engine light came on. It read code p0301 (misfire detected in cylinder one) i cleared it light went away, seemed like it was running fine then after about 15 miles it started running really rough and it now wont rev over 3k rpms and the engine light is flashing.. havent got to read what code its throwing now, I just parked it in the closest parking lot and left it. Anyone got any ideas what could be going on or experience something similar? Bad injector / clogged? Plugs or coil?

How did the spark plug look? When were they last changed? What about the post on the coil? Same questions re: the wire?

You could try to change plugs, but I doubt that will work. The P030x code means what you posted. X=cyl at fault. More than likely you need a new coil.

Be glad you have a simple engine to work on. If you like, swap cyl 1 coil with cyl 2, clear the code; then see if you get P0302 - assuming you swap cyl 2 coil.

If that happens, it's time for a new coil.

Don't waste your $$$ on junk after-market coils unless you are going to sell the truck. If not, get a dealer coil or Denso. Some say they are the same. Not always the case.
