Hey guys, looking to the forum for advice on this one. A long search turned up nothing for me so here's my dilemma:

For the past two days now on the first cold start of the day when I shift from park to drive my truck makes a loud popping sound. The truck drives just fine though. If I stop the truck 10 feet after I roll out of the parking spot and put it in park and back to drive again it's back to normal. I drove the truck for a few miles, parked, and came back about 45 minutes later and it was fine. I drove home, parked for about 5 hours (full cold) and it made the pop again when going into drive.

For reference it's been low 20's around these parts so I'm wondering if the cold has something to do with it? I always park, set neutral, engage parking brake, and then shift to park so I know it's not stress on the driveline causing my issue. Anyone here experience anything like this? Any help is very much appreciated.

    Truck is a 2006 DC 4x4 with 114K miles.

probably something to do with axle wrap and the rear springs freeing up from frozen junk.

been low 20's ..... set neutral, engage parking brake...

I would bet your brakes are frozen and you hear them breaking loose when you forse the pickup to move. Don't set your parking brake with wet/warm brakes in sub-zero temps ...

mine happened and I don't set my parking break since I park in my level garage. The springs breaking loose makes sense if they froze.
