How much oil are you losing? Like a quart a day, or a quart every six months?

My former 2004 4Runner (4.0L) had a small leak at the crankshaft seal. At the time there was a TSB out concerning issues with the crankshaft finish. Of course my VIN was not part of the group listed. The leak was minor so I just monitored it until I sold it for the 2011 we have now. I cleaned the area with de-greaser at every oil change so that I could monitor the leakage rate. I told the new owner to keep an eye on it just in case. The leak did not change much during the time I owned it.

Hope you find the problem and it's easy to correct.

Couldn't tell you it's only been leaking for about a month. K removed the serpentine belt on January 1st snd it started after that some time.

I feel mine is a pretty substantial leak. All in the passenger wheel well and steering components.

Keep the oil topped off until you can get it fixed.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
You are never 'forced', and yes you have choices.

You can find a reputable independent mechanic. Typically their hourly rates are about 1/2 the glam dealer shops. And they can buy OE parts, at a discount, if that's what's needed to effect a proper repair.

For me, I only use a dealer shop for warranty work or recalls.

My leak would work its way down to the oil pan area and slightly past it over time. The off the shelf "purple power" cleaner does a fairly good job of cleaning the areas if you let it sit for a few minutes. With the engine slightly warm, it should remove the oil build up and help you see the origin of the leak at least. Good luck...
