I have a 2014 Tacoma and I want to get a Legal intake for it. What can I do? Has anyone found any that give good gains in HP but are still legal?

Keep in mind your first 6 years are "free" from inspection.

Pretty sure its 4 years and not 6.

Next, Aftermarket CAI is pointless as the stocker is already a cai,

The first 5 years are exempt with the 6th requiring smog check.
Based on the model year not the date sold.
My 2009 Camry bought in 2008 I expected to have smog it last year but does not need to until later this year.

Actually, it's six years counting the current year. So, if you buy a 2015 it may/may not (depending on Vin) be up for testing in 2020, a 2014 may be due in 2019. Also as mentioned it goes by year of vehicle, not year of sale. I ran a fleet for 25yrs and had to deal with emission testing and the changes that came along.

OK guys thanks for the Help... I think ill just get one and swap it out before the smog... that seems to be an easy process and someone had mentioned the OEM intake is CAI? It doesnt give the same gains that the aftermarkets do does it?

You won't get any meaningful gains with just an aftermarket cai. The stock intake is basically cai and is pretty free flowing from all the information on this site.

yup the only guys who see real gains from an aftermarket CAI is the supercharged guys.... but they have to watch for running lean at that point.

I'm running the AFE Stage 2 CAI on my s/c 2014 DCSB v6. Only real gains I noticed was louder engine noise but I also gained about 1mpg increase over the stock intake. I'm planning to just swap on the stock intake when its time for smog.

now i wonder if any MPG gains are from the non existant to aftermarket intakes secondary air filter (charcoal filter) found in the stock intake.
