I wasn't intending on attacking anybody with the knife I just was looking for a good place to mount it. It's a tool not a weapon. I've had knives all my life and they've never hurt anybody but myself a couple times out of my own stupidity. I was concerned about concealed weapons charges if I kept it in my console or glove box so I was looking for an open place to mount it. Maybe out of my reach would get me off the hook?

On the knife conversation, check out http://www.knifeup.com/knife-laws/

Has some good dumbed down vernacular on knife laws of each individual state. It sites court cases and the actual law statutes so you could reference against your states laws.

I just actually found that site since I was starting to question what and where I carry my different knives. I have a non concealed dagger under my steering wheel just in case. And I am about to mount my K-Bar somewhere but I haven't figured that out yet. I like to keep them In the Open but hidden enough a smash and grabber wouldn't see them as they peek in really quick.

Out of curiosity, how is it not concealed if it's mounted under your wheel?

Oregon is freedomville for knives. I have all manor of blades in my vehicles and on my person, and even keep a tomahawk between the seat and the console. On my side of the state it is perfectly normal to have a loaded AR sitting beside you, or a pistol mounted under the dash, etc. Unless you are doing some bad guy shit with them, nobody cares. When I was stationed in SoCal I was shocked to learn that in order to buy a Benchmade auto-opening knife as an active duty Army dude I needed my commanders signature on a form. Like, you can give me satchel charges of C4 and a belt fed 50 but heaven forbid I purchase a knife I can open with one hand. Weird state.

For it to be concealed it has to be covered by something. Under a seat, in a glove box, in a center console, under a shit (shirt) etc. I guess you could hide a knife under poop but idk if I would want to use it ever again.

"In State v. Turner, the Supreme Court of Oregon declared that a weapon was concealed if it was not readily identifiable as a weapon or if the person carrying it attempted to obscure the fact that he or she was carrying a weapon. The Court also said that a weapon was concealed within the meaning of the statute even if it was recognizable if there is also evidence of an imperfect attempt to prevent it from being discovered or recognized."

    If you open the driver door you can clearly see the knife. And if you look in from the passenger window I you can see a tiny bit of it if you know what you are looking for. Therefore it is not concealed. But like username said, in Oregon we can open carry any type of blade from a razor to a sword. I can conceal carry any switch blade and any pocket knife. A pocket knife is defined in Oregon as this;

"State v. Strong, the court found that a knife with a 4 ¾ inch folding blade fit the definition of a pocketknife."

Also, because I have that knife out in the open clipped under the steering wheel, there is nothing that is "trying" to hide it like having a shirt not fully cover it etc but I am sure someone could try and make a case for it being "Imperfectly concealed". But, I have a clean record, I don't have a lead foot and I also show respect to LEO's because lets face it they catch shit 24/7 even when it is 100% undeserved.

Love that knife. I have the seat belt cutter attached to me seat belt JIC. I keep the knife with my hiking gear as I usually opt to take it attached to thigh over a hatched or machete to cut weight in pack.

Here is my layered approach to EDC/GHB: I have a Gerber shard on my key ring and rotate out an EDC folder depending on the mood of the day or attire. They can include a Case stockman, Hoffritz SAK I got when I was 10, a SOG Sogzilla, Benchmade Griptilian, Benchmade Mini Pika, CRKT M16, or a couple others.

I have a Maxpedition EDC organizer which includes the following items:
    • Streamlight Protac 2L flashlight
    • Leatherman Wave + bit set
    • Leatherman Croc tool
    • Lighter
    • duct tape wrapped on Sharpie markers
    • pencil & pens
    • notepad
    • Colt arrowheads
    • CRKT KSS ASSist Tanto

    edx%202%20of%204_zps10qs6v5e_ef0c3e940b111a5e58f95337e0791c33503d5f59.jpg

    edx%201%20of%204_zpspxoc2fhj_d3498011aac6cd3cf218a3e2ef9338c021eea098.jpg

The organizer can be carried by itself or put into my EDC/GHB which is usually kept in the truck. I decided to use a Mountainsmith Day lumbar pack for my EDC/GHB since it is not tactical looking and allows several carry options including the waistband, single shoulder strap, or I can attach the double shoulder strapettes. I am fortunate to live about 8 miles from home, so for my daily commute this is what I have.
    • Solar phone charger

While there is definitely duplication, I set it up this way so that I can grab them in a hurry if needed or go through and lighten the load by removing duplicates if time allows. Firearms that I carry include A S&W 438 snubby, Glock 23, or a Springfield XD9 tactical depending on where I am going. I think I am pretty well covered for myself, but now I want to start thinking about what to carry if my wife and baby girl are along as well.

So I have been watching season 3 of Ultimate Survivor Alaska (I have watched since season one) and the fishing line wrapped around a Nalgene is always a common theme. And you can find at REI etc Nalgene bottles that come as "Survival Kits" with a buncha cheapo goodies in them. So I made my own fishing/survival Nalgene out of good quality extra gear I had laying around. Only issue with Nalgene is boiling. So I am switching it to a Stainless Kleen Canteen. And I just found this pouch on Amazon. This is how I will carry it so it is always on me.

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005LY4SLC...colid=HD480496LIRT&coliid=IT8Y5KPT3WVZS&psc=1

    Thoughts...?

The kit I made is your basic 10 essentials and a little fishing kit for trout. I will post pics this weekend when I am out in the woods and I'll pull it apart.

*This is more wilderness survival if you lose your pack, or whatever. Great little piece to have on a day hike incase something goes wrong and not a SHTF you're gonna survive thing*

Get to home? Choose your goodies wisely. Dehydrated vacuum sealed food is pretty tolerant to hot/cold, and adding a little vodka to your water will keep it from freezing. Also if you store it in soda bottles they will handle the expansion better than crappy water bottles. Bic lighters don't work in the cold, but other than that I haven't had any issues over the years, from the Mojave Desert to the Rockies...arctic circle to baja... and everywhere in between. What are you having problems with Willie?

9 lbs in 72hrs. Not good. There are other videos explaining some of the different reasons and supporting facts on the various bars. That one really struck home with me though in the past.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow. I have REAL foods in the truck. Rice, powdered milk, condensed milk, potato buds, vitamins, powdered eggs, and a few other dry goods.

Home made pemmican. I also smoke my own jerky. I could eat that stuff forever. Also bisquick pancake mix will feed an army, stores well, and all you need to do is add water.

Nalgene's get very brittle in cold and are easily broken. I'd suggest a single wall stainless steel large mouth canteen of the same size instead. Can be used for boiling water, won't explode when dropped, etc etc.

So in short, you're good. Nice kit. Good choice on stainless.

    Kleen Kanteen FTMFW!

I've had one for 4 years 3 1/2 were as a wilderness guide where I made coffee in it in a fire daily. Also have put it on a MSR pocketrocket stove to boil water. Haha I've also used it to strike the back of my knife to split wood. That bottle is dented and burnt all to hell and is still going strong!

Some good stuff is here http://www.mreinfo.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4748 .

    A notable quote

You want to be able to actually EAT the items and not choke them down. More than half of survival is mental. That goes for the food too. If it looks bad and tastes horrible, chances are your demeanor will change towards it. Every little additional stress relief helps. Why make your food source a stressor? Go to your local Out Door store, REI etc. , Get a bunch of the dehydrated or packaged foods to tempt your pallet. They really have come along way in the past couple years.

Cheeses, meats with caffeine infusions, all sorts of great tasking meals and snacks. Things you can either eat in a hurry or take a few mins to heat up/ warm will help and give your mind something to look forward to. Another stress relief. Waiting for a good meal in a survival situation is a real morale booster.

Yep. I use them too. I do have 2, out of many, that have horizontal cracks on them. Never used them for cooking, but normal stuff. Not sure how they got there but they leaked. Superglue stopped it. Haven't exchanged them yet.

I do like the stainless widemouth. Have cooked in many.
