I have an 06 Tacoma prerunner and just like my old Camry you can have the headlights switched on and when you turn the truck off and get out they should shut off. Which they will most of the time. Sometimes they stay on. Anybody know what I can look for to try and fix this? Thanks.

check the door ajar switch on the door jamb. if it malfunctioning the car doesn't realize the door has been closed so doesn't trigger the lights to be turned off. if that seems to be the problem you can replace it or swap with a different door since that won't make your lights stay on

If that was the case, wouldn't your dome light always be on as well since it runs off the pressure switches?

There's a small chance it could be a relay sticking too.

On my 2013 the headlights shut off when I open the drivers door so, if anything, I would assume that when the headlights are staying on the dome light doesn't come on when he opens the door to get out so the car doesn't register the door opening. If you sit there after turning the truck off without opening the door the headlights will remain on

So just checked it out and it is the door switch. Luckily enough it did it the first time. Shut the truck off opens the door. Headlights stayed on dome light stayed off. Pushed the switch in and it popped out and everything worked like it was suppose to. So can I just take that little rubber boot off and clean the button or grease it up with something so it doesn't stick?

I have a 2008 Tacoma and it is doing the exact same thing. What did you do to correct the problem? I assumed it was a relay or the switch on the door jam.
