I recently bought a 09 Tacoma. Although it was advertised to have satellite radio with only a subscription needed, I found out it didn't have the receiver or the mounting kit. I just purchased the PT546-35090 mounting kit on Ebay, but in my research thus far, I have found two part numbers for the receiver and I don't know which one to buy. Should I get receiver part number PT545-00080 or 86180-0W031? It appears to me that "people" have used/installed both? Is there a preference here or is one correct and the other wrong? I sure don't want to buy something that I maybe can't return, plus that hassle.

Can someone educate me here PLEASE ! Much Thanks in advance!!!

back in the day they were two separate companies, you either subscribed to one or the other. Now since they have merged there is only one company so either receiver should work. Fwiw, my entune jbl unit has Xm logo on the face.

    And don't forget the antenna.

PLEASE correct me if this information below is incorrect:

Fit kit PT546-35090 uses the fender mast mounted antenna to connect with XM receiver part #86180-0W031.

Fit kit PT545-35090 uses the painted shark fin antenna on the roof to connect with Sirius receiver part #PT545-00080.

Since my garage is so low that I remove the antenna each time when entering it so it doesn't bend it permanently, I would prefer to use the painted shark fin antenna on the cab roof and keep the mast mounted antenna on the fender off all the time. So...after saying that, the Sirius receiver and its fit kit would be the best solution for me if my information is correct here???

Is this correct so you WOULD NOT need to purchase ANYTHING else but the satellite subscription to get satellite radio to work?

If you can definitively help me here, PLEASE reply....

Much Thanks in advance !!! Walt

If you don't want to replace your receiver you can look for these parts:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...us-install-equipment-scc1-sfa12m-sirtoy1.html

You might be able to find them on eBay for not much. If you wanted to go full replacement for about $300 give or take you could buy a new head unit and a sirius module.

If you go the first route there's a thread here with instructions on how it all hooks up, I'll search more for it and if I find it I'll post back.

Edit: here it is, the pictures are gone but the explanations are there.

2nd edit: I am pretty sure I have the steering wheel control harness and the toyota interface module, if you wanted them if sell them for $50 or so. I need to look for them and make sure I didn't accidentally throw them out. You'd still need the scc1 and the antenna wire mentioned in the thread above.

Well....I just got off the phone with SiriusXM and I believe what I wrote about Fit kit PT546-35090 is WRONG! It does NOT use the fender mount antenna according to SiriusXM. Both "Fit kits" use the painted shark fin antenna mounted on the cab roof according to SiriusXM. I still think I am correct in that each "fit kit" must be matched with the corresponding receiver like I wrote in my reply thread? Can someone confirm this???

    Op,
If you are dead set on buying the toyota specific parts then yes, the fit kit is specifically for each receiver. I think it'll be more expensive to go with your parts rather than the ones I posted but your choice.

    Basically:
Fit kit + factory receiver - not sure how much you can get them for, maybe $200?

    Or

Scc1 + sir-toy + shark fin adapter cable - depending on if you can find a used scc1 it might be $150?

    Kingston73,

I guess every time I venture away from non-dealer parts on any vehicle, I seem to always regret it. Since you are helping me here, I don't have a receiver yet, but I did purchase a new Toyota fit kit PT546-35090 yesterday on Ebay for less than half of what they cost from a Toyota dealer. Now I just need the factory receiver 86180-0W031. From my extensive research here, it appears that part number works for MANY different Toyota models. Can you confirm that or not? Also, can you confirm this fit kit does attach to the painted shark fin antenna on the cab roof without buying anything else?
