I paid the same thing, $860 from Discount Tire. I had to have them match a local dealer though. So far so good but the mpg has dropped. I am not sure how much but I think I will miss the power more from the light weight tires. Or should say I the speed. I was averaging 19-20 on BFG ATs before these.

Alright, finally pulled the trigger on a set of 255/80/17 a few weeks ago and took them through their paces!

    First Impression:
They felt ok at 32psi (which the installers did), but I increased it to 40psi and like the ride much better on the street. The ride was a bit rougher than the stock tires, but not uncomfortable. I noticed a slight loss in power and mpg, but only slight and well worth it! I still get ~19mpg and have plenty of passing power on the road.

    Off-road:
I knew these are supposed to be tough tires and I didn't go easy on them! I used them for higher speed stuff on dirt/mud/gravel terrain @ 28psi. First thing I noticed was good traction on the rugged gravel roads leading to the trails. It was much harder to break the back end loose on turns than my last set of tires lol! They did an average job at ejecting rocks out of the tread as I drove. Then I took it through some mud and they pulled me through pretty well considering I'm only 2WD, a bit of speed helped too though I'm sure ;) They also did excellent on the softer dirt of the trails we were on, didn't get stuck yet! I think the moment when they impressed me the most was when we drifted sideways into a good 3ft ditch on the mountain side, gave it gas, and sped out without initiating the traction control! lol... After the long days of pushing them hard in the rocks, I noticed only a little chunking of the tread, but very minor considering we were driving pretty hard and about 35-50mph on some unforgiving terrain.

For my purposes I'm happy with them. [IMG] [IMG][IMG]

First post over here as I hangout more at the 4runner site...

Regarding the Cooper ST Maxx, what weight did anyone come up with for the tire itself in 265/75/16 in person? The website says 49lbs but I have seen mention of 54lbs....

I was as discount today and weighed up the 255/85/16 and it came in at 60lbs. as compared to its advertised weight of 53!

I'm also concerned about the weight of the C-rated 255/75R17, which TreadDepot has at 53 lbs. Which doesn't make any sense, because that would make it even heavier than their E-rated 255/80R17. For a C-rated tire that's kind of ridiculous.

I emailed Cooper for an answer but haven't heard back yet.

The potential heaviness of this tire is my only concern with it, and because of that I'm leaning towards the Hank' ATM's at the moment.

Honestly. I don't even feel the strong sidewalls...run them at 40 psi all four tires

you don't find things ride rough at 40psi? i like a solid ride myself and have mine set to 40psi on my f150 reg cab and it rides a little harsh for sure. but this was a perfect psi with my cap and bed loaded up as my camp for the summer.

Huh. I'm not sure how heavy those Mastercraft's were, but all other things being equal, science and math would indicate a larger drop in MPG.

For my situation, the difference between the C-rated Coopers (assuming the TreadDepot figure is correct) and Hankook Dynopro's is 16 lbs. That's insane, and I have to assume it would result in a very measurable effect on MPG.

To be fair though, I believe the 255/75R17 Hankook's are Passenger rated.

I'm still hoping to hear back from Cooper about the weight of those S/T Maxx's though, and that the TreadDepot figure is wrong and that they really only way 42 lbs or something.....

I know just the treads of some LT tires we make at our plant weight anywhere from 20-28lbs each then add the carcass and rest of the tire with the armor tek sidewalls and beads it adds up, I'm not sure on weights of them as we don't make the ST MAXX, at our plant... But we do make the mastercraft mud terrains, and lots of others...

When I was researching tires I was given a weight of 54lbs by the local Cooper Tire shop.

Not sure why Tread Depot seems to be understating tire weights.

I really dig cooper tires and have been considering the ST Maxx in a 315/75R16 for the truck. Any body running this size yet and have pics? I've run the old google search and got lots of pics but none specifically of a mounted 315.

The weight listed for the TSL radials that I'm currently running in a 36x12.5R16 come in at 73lbs a tire. I figure anything would be lighter in comparison, not really in need of new tires just looking to see what's out there. I have seen the ST Maxx on a few of my friends vehicles and they seem to really like them. I thought the old Cooper ST was a really good tire just had to stay on top of rotations or they would go high/low on the outer tread blocks curious if the redesign fixed that.
